QANTAS ANZ card has even further deteriorated... to rubbish

Even their bonus points system has gone to dogs with the last changes.

I used to get three points for every dollar with Telstra for fixed phone, up to 4 points for my mobile phone (long time user), etc. With my intl calls about $500.00 this was great. When they broke up with Telstra and then increased the reward fees, I cancelled my card. Only useful bonus points they have now is with hotels. Rest, Westpac altitude match fairly well.

If they have introduced new exciting bonus point options, I would be interested.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks for all the useful comments. I did some web/phone research and will probably initially try out the Westpac Card as its credit limit (up to $50k according to them) is greater than the Citibank Silver/Gold offerings (I used to have one in the Ansett days). While the income hurdle for the Citibank Gold/Platinum is not an issue, unless I'm mistaken, I don't see any additional points benefits for either of these beyond the Travel Insurance (I get an annual policy via work) and some of the Hotel Partners, that justify the higher annual fees.

The Westpac offering does seem to be a good choice.

I am leaning towards the Commonwealth Gold Visa or Mastercard which seems to be annual fee of $114 incl rewards program and has the nice added bonus of offering up to 6 balance transfers a year on which they will issue 1 bounus point per $ transferred.

I have both a Westpac Altitude Gold Visa & CBA Gold Visa. I would have to say that they are both comparable in most ways. The big advantage that CBA has is the Netbank service is infinately more user friendly than the Westpac online banking equivilant. Other than that there is little top tell them apart. (They even look almost the same) :D

mbeder,
There are at least two other threads on Citibank Platinum. That might give you some more info. It gets you automatic upgrades on some hotels as well as hotel frequent guest programs.
Other point is of course that it is platinum and of the two platinum cards we have in Australia this is the cheapest. Amex Platinum costs $900.00 per annum.

Clifford Reichlin in the news again, this time on credit card loyalty schemes. Makes for a very informing read

What does this really mean :?:

Probably the usual situation, that those who have a high expenditure (and pay off their bills on time) on their credit cards are able to do really well and the masses who carry the credit card debt burden pay for the schemes. It really comes down to the individual, their spending patterns and what they are able to afford.

As an individual, if you carry a large credit card debt, and have limited or small spending on the cards then you are probably better off to use a cheaper NON FF linked card. If you pay off your debt and/or (preferably and) spend large amounts of money through your cards you are able to utilise the FF schemes to their limits.

I go the other way, I find the Westpac NetBanking a lot easier to use than CommBank's.

Me too (westpac). Also, I have a homeloan package that gives me a free Altitude Gold card with travel insurance. I love my westpac altitude card :D

A lot of discussion is focus and blame is on the Banks. We should lay our blame on the Reserve Bank. They were suppose to look after the consumer however this has backfired. As a result, we are all now up for higher Bank charges.

Maybe the consumer is also to blame just a little :!: (controversial I know)

A lot of people make a lot of noise however never actually get around to voting with their feet as they often should :!:

 Just a thought
