Qantas Airways' Dixon Says He Expects to Run Carrier Past 2007 June 5 (Bloomberg)

Qantas Airways Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Geoff Dixon said he'll probably run Australia's biggest airline past the end of his term on July 1, 2007.

"It's really for the chairman to say, but I'd expect I'll be staying longer than the middle of next year,'' Dixon said in an interview in Paris yesterday, where he was meeting with fellow CEOs from the Oneworld airline alliance and attending an International Air Transport Association meeting. "I would expect I'll go into a contract that's more year-on-year, rather than fixed.''

Oh well... :-|

I think Geoff has done a good job - apart from my dislike of fuel surcharges and the fact that he (and Maggie) have not yet made me a CL member. ;)

Yes and no.

Jetstar, international and especially domestic, will more than cancel out anything good he has attempted to do for the Qantas group.

It would be nice to sit down and have a chat with Geoff one of these days, and discuss various things airline/Qantas related (including my CL membership application :D )

I don't think he's done anything too bad in his time. I agree fuel surcharges and the desecration of Qantas has been his 2 big low points, but overall he has done well and ensured Qantas remains relatively free of industrial action / turning into a 3rd world bankrupt airline...

From my point of view, he's a very shrewd operator and has kept the business strong. From a customer's perspective, I'm not so sure it has all been good news.

Agreed, he has done a good job for shareholder's in what is a fairly difficult business. However, this has been at considerable cost to both customer's and employee's of Qantas. This is not unlike many other companies, however.
