Qantas Account: Notice of suspension

Admin,

as a member of this forum I respectfully wish to make the comment that I believe that the AFF newsletter article that referred to this thread was not sound. It referred to Qantas "incorrectly crediting points". This was CLEARLY never the case - QF creditted correctly, it was the actions of some people to reverse transactions to take advantage and gain fraudulent points that caused the problem.

I understand that there are many grey areas, but in this case the AFF newsletter took the side of people who falsely game the system. That is a bad position for the officials of this site to support.

Sounds like you know more than anyone here including myself! Despite all the spiteful comments you've been making; you make me laugh

ataraxis, why do you step in and attack posters? why don't you just come clean with your situation? Nothing in my posts is "spiteful" - it is my take on the situation given what YOU have posted. Please show me I am wrong. I intensely dislike this forum being used for sharing illegal and/or immoral practices. Your posts suggest that you actively scam Qantas by making expensive purchases online, gain the points, then reverse the purchases. Can you assure me that this is not the case?

The AFF Gazette has not taken any side on this matter. The article written highlights what was provided in the thread originally, and there wasn't a lot of information. A lot of what you have just written is conjecture, your opinion of what the OP has done. They have not admitted anywhere that their actions were to take advantage of the system and fraudulently gain points.

If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to open a conversation with me.

Please show me I am wrong.

They do not have to. Please desist from taking this thread any further off its original topic.

I attack posters? I'm the one being accused left right and center...
I don't care whether you think I'm guilty or not. I also won't be giving you any specifics because I have nothing to prove to you. And yes, it also give me great joy that this (not providing evidence/refund dates/amounts/retailers) seems to drive you mad for whatever reason.

hahahaha! Thank you for a smile. No, I am not driven mad by this. I will quietly continue to protect this forum from being used by fraudsters. This only requires a few minutes of my time daily. You keep on your thing, whatever it is.

You advised that QF had frozen your account, but refuse to reveal the actual circumstances. This is a forum where we all discuss issues. Instead you make it a plea to contact others that suffered same. But dont want to give info for the rest of us to understand. Forgive me for thinking it is dodgy people trying to network with dodgy people.

Stop being so defensive juddles, how has he attacked you? The OP asked a question to open the thread, from there it has manifested into what people think the OP is guilty of, without any actual evidence to ascertain whether their opinion is correct, rather based on a couple of the OP's posts in another thread.

The fact is the OP asked a question, but no one actually decided to answer the question and instead started to take a view on the what they think happened.

Exactly.

Please in advance understand my hesitance, but who are you???? I am maybe not experienced with AFF admin / support. But I would like to know where you fit in.

You say the AFF Gazette has not taken any side, but twice they refer to Qantas "incorrectly giving points", which is absolute rubbish, and indeed places the commentator (representing AFF) against Qantas and thus taking sides.

rock, it is not defensive. The OP opened a thread then refused to answer anything that members asked to understand better the situation. Why would I feel defensive?? This whole thread has nothing to do with me, but all to do with the OP.......

TBH this is going in circles and starting to get a little tiring to me.

The OP only ever asked one question at the start which nobody has replied in the affirmative and we only have their word that people have PM'd to say they had too.. so we don't really know (but no real reason to disbelieve that). Yes I agree that if others have been through this)account suspension) then why not post in the thread, but perhaps they might also be fearful of being judged or whatever. I don't know. Just a thought.

I've written here before that while I feel the whole question and circumstances raised absolutely opens up the OP to pages of speculation as we've seen, that's the nature of the beast and we will try and "figure it out" or in this context figure out why QF might suspend an account. Are the various accusations levied fair? probably not but we don't know. The OP has no obligation to share more information, and that;'s their right. All they ever asked was one question. Does that make them seem "dodgy"? That's a rather personal opinion I think. Again, everyone is differnt and some people's spending and return habits may not seem reasonable to others but again that is all based on personal habits, experiences and expectations.

At the end of the day the specualtion doesn't matter and is just going to go around in circles I think since the OP is clearly never going to give more information regarding the specific situation and name calling and stuff doesn't add to the conversation I think.

I'm not supporting the OP per se but I do feel like not a lot is to be gained by contiued specuation about this because I doubt we'll ever know :)

Wow, now attacking the site support, that is brave!. Only Qantas can give QF points so not sure why you regard this statement as incorrect if you regard the facility as having been abused.

This thread is an embarrassment for AFF. It appears to be a method for people who game the system to share their experiences. The content was simple - gaining points through online purchases then returning items to get the cash back but retain the points. Hopefully the entire thread gets wiped, but AFF will still be tainted by it.

I'm out. As stated before; I will update those interested when I learn more.

Also @support, please provide @juddles with passport, birth certificate and recent utility bill ASAP because he needs to know who you are. Thank you.

but to be fair to the OP they never ASKED for the situation to be understood or input to be made about it.

they only wanted to know if others had been in a similar situation.

It's the rest of us (me included) who took it onto ourselves to start to think about it and try and understand what would cause a suspension by QF in this situation. The OP never asked anyone to do that, though obviously the circumstance opened up for the specualtion and I'm sure they expected that.

At this stage this thread has been locked. When the OP has an update to their situation, they can start a conversation with any staff member to get it re-opened and post the conclusion. If any other member feels they have something pertinent to add, they may also do the same.

This is going to seem unfair because you cannot respond in thread, but have you not read many of the threads on AFF? A lot of what is posted on AFF is tips and tricks to increase status and points, from buying cat food in Adelaide to making minuscule transactions on your utility bill. It's a big driving force behind why members come to AFF.

Hello AFF! It's me again :D

As promised, here's an update on what happened to my account...

I waited out my 21 days of punishment by Qantas after which... nothing happened. Account still locked and zero correspondence from QF.
Considering I had 4 J award tickets booked I thought it would be best to stay quiet just incase of an account closure in which case I would most likely lose my points and my flights. So I waited some more.

This week curiosity finally got the better of me and I called the number provided in the email.

After explaining to the agent that my account had been locked due to some transaction through the QF Mall, I was placed on hold. 5 minutes later the agent got back to me and apologised for any inconvenience caused. He explained that retailer X (not going to say which one.. sorry) still credited points even after a refund or exchange had taken place within 30 days, which had been the case for me.

The agent only referred to 1 single transaction which caused my account to be flagged as "fraud". He said "take this fraud thing lightly as it's definitely not your fault that the points still credited". I told him it was poor form to just freeze accounts and provide zero correspondence as to what was happening almost 1 month after the supposed 21 day waiting period. In the end he told me no points would be taken back (since the transaction he was referring to was a simple exchange of an item) and offered me 10k QF to compensate for any inconvenience caused which I think was a satisfactory outcome to the whole situation.

ataraxis - Thankyou for the update. I'm sure it will be helpful for any other member who ends up in a similar situation.

I very much respect your restraint in not firing back at totally unreasonable comments made by a number of members who took it upon themselves to be judge jury and executioner based on figments of their own imagination.

Thanks support for confirming my understanding of the vast majority of the discussions on this site which are related to gaining some advantage via a myriad of means as I referred to in post 202.

I'm a relatively new/junior member. Is there some formal process to report particularly antagonistic members who repeatedly take it upon themselves to attack other members in a non-respectful way?

All part of being on a forum, as long as no one is attacking you in person they can say what they like :)
I for one found the whole thing entertaining at times and I'm sure so did others. I'm just super glad this whole thing worked out!
