"Qantas A380 grounded in Los Angeles"

My Boss has just recently returned from LAX flying the 744 on the way over and the A388 coming back.

One of the first things he said when I quizzed him about the flights etc was he would never fly J class in the A388 again if there was a 744 service available.
...

Classic, my boss just did the exact same! But flew A380 J both ways, but he is well versed in 747 J being a CL member!

He said the complete opposite however, loved the A380...preferred it to the 747... I'll get some details on why and post back to make this more meaningful.

Agreed. The seats are fully-flat, and the cabin is more spacious for starts. I flew from Europe to Sydney in J on the A380 and jumped on a 747 in J back to LHR 36 hours later and found any comparison to definitely be in favour of the A380. But that would be unsurprising, wouldn't it?

NCW on BA and OCW for that matter you need to climb over people ! ok if your a fairly capable person but not idea if your not so apt at climbing around aircraft cabins.

file51, do you have an idea of your boss's reasons? Are they the same as hoops's ?

Interesting. Or rather, concerning for QF.

If it's a recurring theme, the good PR will only last for a while until the frequent travellers wise up.

OK, after having a chance to extract some more information here are the reasons (as stated previously, pretty much the same as has been already said in this thread).

* Inexperienced crew, some of which appeared to have not worked in a premium cabin before and requests such as a drink refill were huffed over.

* Expectation of a much better seat, i.e. fully flat, MKII, etc etc. Only thing that was found to be better was the video screen, much better than in the shell of the seat in front

* Increased foot traffic in aisle by staff during what would normally be considered sleep time

* Extremely long delays in regards to being served meals and having tray tables cleared

* On a personal note my boss preferred the more intimate environment of the 744 J class over the wide expansive spaces in the A388

He did like the new-ness of the A388, and obviously things like the service will improve as with speed of service, however in the coming year or so he will opt for the 744 service which he has been happy with for the past 5-6 years.

Maybe he should try to pre-allocate in the row 11-13 mini-cabin next time? There are 18 seats there rather than the 42 from rows 16-22.

Of course there is a big difference in the environment of a 744 upper deck and that of the middle J section on the 388.

I guess he is comparing the 42 seat 380 middle cabin with the 24 seat upper deck of the 744 or 28 seat lower deck.

Shame he didnt try for the 18 seat front cabin or 12 seat rear cabin.

With that comment, he was definitely sitting in the main "dorm room". I'd be interested to see if his opinion of the service (and other people who haven't liked the A388) differs if he gets allocated to the first 3 rows in the mini cabin up front.

I certainly enjoyed the service and wouldn't hesitate in sampling it again if the opportunity arose. :D

Just to stress these were the opinions of somebody else, and yes he was sitting in the main J cabin on the A388 and has always had a preference for upstairs on the 744.

I am very much looking forward to my first flight in J on the A388 and will take the advice given regarding the front cabin if seat allocation allows me to do so.
