Qantas 787 Event

With all you people not going things are looking up for there to be a spare spot for me!!

Have a feeling that this is also the 'launch' of the new pilots uniform too. Meaning the day where everyone switches over.

I had to bail out of the Pilot Uniform launch and I'll be In NhaTrang Vietnam for this one.
How will Qantas survive without me?

Lucky you. Throwing up in the middle of their performance wouldn't have been a good look.

Only about 11.5 million folks won't get the invitation. The song that came to mind was "Cecilia you're breaking my heart" as the rest of us are "Waiting for Godot". You probably realize Godot does not turn up.....
'Mrscove wants me to buy 2 tickets to fly on the 787 to London from Perth. Now that will be an arm wrestle.

Presumably on the inaugural PER-LHR direct flight (predicted by the optimistic...).

Say yes - on the condition that you can buy your Tesla now. I know a bloke who is dead keen to ride with you on the inaugural Ludicrous mode trip ;):p.

Europe I can easily see. Perth is an isolated airport, so some work will need to be done on approach aids and alternates. But, I guess all will be revealed.

Interestingly, the A350 has a greater range.....

Sshhh... by the time Mrs Cove finds out it ain't happening, Cove will already have his Tesla ;).

My prediction (not for first route while they bed them down) but for not long after will be Dallas. They're going to have to announce an A380 cabin overhaul and will need to pull one out of service for prolonged times and I can't see them touching LAX or LHR.

Mrscove is quite tinny with her lotto so she thinks buying airline tickets can be thought of as normal behaviour. It sets back the lift for our house as well as the ludicrous mode Tesla.
Actually I bought 2 J tickets to get us home from Sydney so I can actually do it.
I won a stack of brownie points looking after her when she was quite ill in Sydney.

It will be interesting if they are going to release seat designs. Last time they did that for the A330 a few months later Virgin came out with theirs bragging how great it was to get the QF design so theirs could be so much better.

Some kind of seat map would be good to see. Do we know whether they will have an F cabin yet?

Meanwhile I'm starting to make a habbit out of booking PER-SIN-DXB to save 11 hours in the same seat, also nets 30 extra SCs and is often cheaper. Travel time is a little longer but more bearable. PER-LHR direct does not sound appetizing in Y, even if I thought they'd fly it!

I'll have to try SYD-HNL-LAX at some point -- same deal, when booking close to departure is often similar price.

DXB-PER is nice when it's empty and you can lie down in a middle section though. I need to figure out what the quiet days are and try to align flying on those.

Should just pull the seat maps before departure for a while I guess.

Thanks for your insight.

Anyone got a response differing from this?

There will not be F. A fair bit of J an PE. And no actual seat plan is decided on yet.

This real response took me over three minutes of online research ;)

For what it's worth, this page thinks that QF is going to put the Thompson Cozy Suite on its 787.

For those who don't remember the concept: Seat would be 20" wide and pitch would be of 34". Vastly superior to any economy seat out there.

No invite here :(.

But I will be in the QF 1st Lounge that day waiting to fly to the likely launch route. HKG.
