Don't see many details yet, but apparently Qantas are having a limited 2-for-1 sale for Business tickets to certain destinations starting tomorrow. (Note it is a "Valentines day sale" and may only be available through certain Travel Agents)

Sale ends on the 17th.

Destinations include:
North America
New Caledonia
New Zealand
Mumbai
Singapore
China
Hong Kong
Philippines
Indonesia
South America
Africa
UK
Europe

Hopefully there will be more information around tomorrow regarding the sale...

A general 2-for-1 international sale including WHY could have been more usefull. Anyway good luck to anyone that can make use of the sale....

I did a double take when i saw the JNB price, thats a cheap flight.

I only wish when they had these sales you did not have to travel the segments with the other person, often it may be useful to me but for example have different return dates. Oh well good luck to all those people who can take advantage.

Absolutely useless for a single person. :( The requirement to travel with someone else means there is no way I can use this offer.

Hopefully one day Qantas and other businesses that think that everyone has a partner, will realise that there is a large number of people not in a relationship but do have discretionary income and like to travel and would appreciate a deal like this.

A final question, on this fare do both people get FF points and SC?

Please don't get me wrong as I like a sale but,

Don't these sales devalue the premium Qantas product which is priced above market because of what it is?

[Not to mention reduce the number of seats available for points upgrades but I'm not going there, at least for now!]

?

I presume they want to stop single (perhaps business travellers) taking up this deal. By making it a comnpanion fare I guess it stops that to an extent.

Pity they only have point to point travel and not RTW. Hubby is going on work trip in March and his company travel agent has booked tickets in J class for about $10K plus taxes. If they have RTW then I can use this 2-for-1 deal. As is, I cannot make good use of it! :(

No.
Its all about supply and demand. I assume that QF J isn't selling at the alleged premium value price point, so QF are simply setting a price that they think will selling. If you can use these fares you are actually getting better value.

something i just noticed as i was searching for fares from MEL-SIN on this special. First time i forgot to make it for 2 adults and the fare came up at $6200 for one all in. Then searching for two it came up to $5076 for two all in. Therefore a single traveler actually can benefit from this sale. Both were business savers.

BA just added themselves into the sale on SIN/LHR flights in Club World for sale dates as the QF sale

These sound really good at first view.I have been looking at flights to LAX or NYC.For the last few months AA have had a J special via NRT at-
LAX-$6769++
NYC-$7859++
NZ have just released a special J fare to LAX-$5249++
So the QF fares are not particularly generous and you have 4 days to decide. Not for me.

Totally agree. Being single and wanting to travel is not easy as most deals have the "price is based on twin share" clause with "single supplements apply" in the terms and conditions. The deal is not very attractive when adding the single supplement.

Yes.

Single supplements are typically due to the land component and in particular the hotel. A $200 a night room will cost 2 people $100 a night each and this is what the pricing is based on. A single person has to wear the full $200 cost.

Maybe it would have been useful to have Buy 1 Get 1 Free tickets, so then if you travel as a solo - you can go two trips, rather than taking your other half.

I cannot see any reason why a single traveller should not be included in this sale apart from trying to limit sales to business type travellers who are usually prepared to pay a little more for airfares than most travellers?

After all selling 2 seats to 2 totally unrelated single travellers is the almost the same as selling 2 seats to a pair of people who may also happen to be totally unrelated. Seems flawed logic to me but what do I know about selling seats for an airline....

JohnK

This is exactly the same as when Woolworths has sales of 2 for $x or 3 for $x and so on but if you buy one you pay full price.
