Qantas 1st class lounge Melbourne

I do not think the F lounge will vanish but may get a rename or repurpose over the next 10 years. Just a hypothesis based on QF only having x12 a380s with F and at 50% life span. 789 have no F cabin and with the the QF desire to east coast AU to U.K. point to point I would suggest that any F product would be limited, if at all.

What future name may be given to the current QF F lounges? I will not even hazard a guess. I do not think it would be unreasonable to think there will be a lounge that caters for OWE, CL's and EK F (if the partnership still exists or perhaps a new partner) and another lounge that caters for OWS, QP, and (maybe) QF Y+.

Just thoughts

If QF drops F altogether in the future, they could do like UL for example and just give a name to the lounge instead of calling it First lounge.

They could always follow MH and call it the "Platinum Lounge".

Sorry to revive an old thread but any updated thoughts on what the Melbourne F lounge opening hours will be after QF9 is retimed? I am planning to book the late CX departure next July (23.40 departure) and would be keen to know if it will remain open into the evenings (I note the last QF flight out at that time of year is the 23.15 AKL flight, although obviously it doesn't have F).

One would think it would stay open until the last oneworld flight had left given that there’s QF Plats and P1’s and OW Emeralds who may be travelling.

What I have heard in the past from lounge staff is that OW airlines usually will sign a separate agreement with a lounge (separate from OW agreement) to get reduced rates and to get guaranteed hours.

You can usually tell by going to the OW site to see the logos against each lounge of who is using who at a particular port.

Mel-doh on QR and mel-nan on FJ and mel-chc/akl on QF are pretty much the last to depart from mel before midnight with the lounge closing at 11:30pm.

I will check direct with staff in a few days, but I previously had confirmation that the lounge will be open at least until QF95 departs - which I believe is around 10pm. No guarantee after that. With the up gauge of the overnight AKL flight to an A330 I too would think this should count as the last QF flight but not sure that will be the policy.

Never happened to me but I have heard from a colleague that the lounge closed once a good 15 minutes before the overnight flight to AKL departed (it was quite delayed).

Equally, a friend of mine was allowed to stay in the lounge past closing before her MH flight. She had only just arrived from the last CBR-MEL flight so they were happy for her to sit with a cup of tea and some biscuits while the vacuuming and other tidying up took place. I think she left when it was clear they were about to actually close up but wasn’t actually kicked out. Suspect that was an isolated courtesy.

OK, staff confirmed there is no answer as yet. High degree of confidence that lounge will be open until the LAX flight departs at 21:40. Unknown whether the AKL flight will warrant continued operation. Staff expect not. They did not believe that flight was becoming an A330. I may have been wrong on that.

Their best guess was lounge and spa would be open until 10pm.

But I’m not surprised that staff wouldn’t be informed just yet.

After March QF will have 2 flights operated by the A380 exMEL; QF93 to LAX and QF35 to SIN both of these flights depart around 11:25 and 12:25 respectively depending on the time of year.

For AKL: QF151 and QF159 are expected to be operated by the A330 daily (except on Saturdays for QF151 where its operated with 73H's), With the changes of QF151 becoming an A330 flight, I would expect this to atleast warrant the QF F lounge to open until then.

I was there the other night ahead of QF151. Interestingly QF9 left on time but there was no sense of the lounge closing up. 151 boarded close to an hour late (about 23:40) and pax from later Jetstar and CX flights I think were still being allowed in and to stay. I didn’t see if the kitchen was still open and of course the lounge may have closed straight after I left. But I thought that was a good sign.

Guess we won’t know for sure until March.

As per usual, the J cabin on 151 was light. Only 4 of us. Crew said Y was full, but from my reading of EF did not appear to be oversold

I know when QF9 was delayed a few hours when I was there last year and I went back to the dining room the menu was a supper menu (a reduced range compared with the menu available earlier in the evening).

I’ve always had good service in this lounge, especially from Jess and Rebecca, though I note others have not. That said, my most recent visit I noticed a significant increase in attentiveness from all staff (not just Rebecca who does look after me and I was fortunate to have again). Very proactive water and wine top-ups in the restaurant, and regular walk-throughs in the general seating areas.

Despite an average menu (as noted in relevant thread) the food quality seemed better too. A different chef working on the night I visited.
