Again? What can one say without repeating themselves?

If I remember correctly SYD-BNE has now gone up $11 to $109 in ~6 months.

It's amazing how the prices never go down again when the fuel prices go down.

And why does JQ get a mention in the press release, I thought they were separate entities

I'm sure prices did come down significantly when fuel surcharges were removed. From memory the cheapest fare you could get on SYDMEL or SYDBNE is somewhere where it is now with the increases ,as it was when surcharges came off over 2yrs ago.I dont have any old visa statments to back that up with me though

If those nutters in Egypt could sort themselves out it might help global oil prices, but yes i'm sure even then they would come down a lot more slowly than the prices shot up....

They have, and significantly. At one stage QF MEL-SYD flights were on sale for $115 or so. And their base rate was about $129ish.

Just the media don't care if things go down in price (excl the milk scandle at the moment). And well it's QF.

Airfares do go down occasionally but only when there is a lot of pressure.

If fuel prices drop next week QF will leave the airfares where they are and then when fuel goes up again they will increase. So we see things like increase, increase, increase, increase, increase, increase, increase and then decrease.

QF and the ex-JQ boss can't seem to separate the 2 different entities. I couldn't care less what happens to JQ and I am reading a QF article.

When I first started commuting ~3 years ago SYD-BNE was $128 with sale prices $85, $89 and $95. But take note these airfares included the fuel surcharge separately (and a a totally over inflated fuel surcharge at that) which was dropped a few months later and the base airfare SYD-BNE was ~$85.

So in ~2 years we have gone from ~$85 to ~$109 which is a significant increase.

A lot of wealthy people make good money from a rising oil price - I can't see it falling anytime soon.

Seems a tad familiar...banks seem to behave the same way with interest rates.
The big four banks here don't make huge profits when compared to some large companies around the world when you base it on a return on asset base. As Ralph Norris said the other day:
"Yes we are a profitable organisation, but not excessively so, given the size of our asset base.
"We have $650bn in total assets, and a cash profit of $3.3bn is a return on assets of around 1 per cent, which has been a consistent outcome for many years."
I would much rather the banks we have here helping the Superfunds of Australia's compared to what say Ireland has! Anyway we are getting off track now so back to the QF increase on fares.

I have no issues with airfares being adjusted upwards. Its the downward pressure on fares that results in service cuts that we all like to complain about. I am happy to see fares increase so long as its not hidden in things like fuel surcharges. Adjust the base fare, not hide the increases in add-on charges.

Indeed! I do care about price increases, but on the flip-side am happy it's not added as a Fuel Surcharge.

Interesting as the thread discussing the increased international fuel fines mentioned a price of $100 a barrel of oil. Yet in the last week I've seen tapis oil at $86 a barrel. Yet fares go up because of fuel cost.

Precious little oil exported from Egypt so thats not it. They use pretty much all that they pump out of the ground internally.

The situation in Egypt is probably creating uncertainty about regional stability. Leading to speculation pushing up the oil price
