I have made a QF booking via QF website (SYD-LAX) and when I go to enter my AAdvantage number it says it is invalid. I select the drop down box and select American Airlines, enter the number and says invalid and must contain only numbers.
I checked with AA call centre and they confirm I have a valid number but cant comment on the QF website.
My AA number was issued 8 years ago or so and is 7 characters long, a mix of number and letters.
Anyone got any ideas?

Unfortunately the only way to enter your Aadvantage number is somewhat convoluted.
First make the booking without any frequent flyer number. Once you have completed your booking go back to the Qantas homepage and enter your booking details (PNR & surname) in the little box on the right, toggling "Manage Your Booking". That will take you back to the booking and you will be able to enter the Aadvantage number under "Add Frequent Flyer number". Your number will be accepted at this point. Before entering your Aadvantage number it is also a good idea to double check what fare code your booking is under. You can then compare it to the Aadvantage website (Qantas Airways) to see if the fare code on your Qantas flights will earn Aadvantage miles.

The problem of not being able to enter Aadvantage numbers at the time of booking has always been like this and I've certainly sent emails to Qantas but they seem to have no desire to fix the problem.

Tried this may times and it just doesn't work. You get an error message saying it is an invalid number. Has done this for many years.
I think when you selct AA from the drop down box, it is looking for a membership number with all numbers, not numbers and letters. Looks like Ill have to call QF.
I'm in O class so should get 50%

It isn't looking for all numbers since many AA membership numbers can be added without an issue, but some seem to get classed as invalid

If you give reservations a call - 131313 - they should be able to add it for you without any problems.

Remembering AAdvantage numbers from myself, friends, and family, I've never seen a purely numeric number - they all are 7 digits and have both letters and numbers. Sounds like a tech problem on Qantas's end.

Indeed/ Many years ago the memberships numeric only but for a long time there have been a mixture of alphabetic and numeric characters

Yes, just rang 131313 and they added it manually. The operator said it is a known problem for many years but QF IT have done nothing about it he said.

Re: Putting AA number on QF booking - Fixed!

It has been about three months since I have tried putting in my AAdvantage number at the time of booking. Usually I just go straight to MYB and add it there after making the booking - which was tiresome.
I tried adding my AAdvantage number during booking this morning (a sale means the cheapest fares are, generally, O and not E!) and it worked successfully. I guess the IT people are finally getting down the list of things to do!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This week I have still had to go to MYB.This way has always worked for me and used to it now.

Probably falls into the low priority basket.

Given the number of issues that seem to plague the QF web site I would have to say that this would be low priority. :(
