Purpose of a Virgin Lounge thread

I think this is a great for a sticky or 6... We could have one for each major lounge in both QF and DJ (I won't suggest which ones for fear of offending someone).

I'd probably argue in VA's case it would probably be overkill to create separate threads for each lounge. It would be manageable to have one sticky in the VA section - allowing for the fact that there aren't that many lounges around and there would be opportunities to meet up on arrival or in transit. Eg. If i'm in MEL heading to MKY via BNE there's three points at which you could meet up with someone in the next few hours. If it got too busy it would be easy enough to split later.

Just thinking as I type - not sure if others agree with me or not. But as a QF flyer I'd still be rather happy to visit an AFF member in a DJ lounge, for example. If the lists are segregated by lounge then I might miss out on a good opportunity to meet with someone interesting in the DJ lounge. If the list is segregated by airport/terminal then I can see who's around the place and increase the chances of meeting someone and guesting someone into the QF lounge or being guested into a DJ lounge. I guess obviously some airports make this unfeasible (I'm thinking SYD where technically I can't guest someone into the F lounge unless they're on my flight). But for domestic options it could be very useful.

I guess if that's too hard to manage, then meeting/guesting can still work. For example if I'm delayed at ADL for a couple of hours I can post on both the QF and DJ threads letting people know I'm at the airport, is there anyone around for a catch up. But that might not be as efficient a resource.

The blog should replace the monthly threads, with anyone able to edit it, but not sure if the blog software is good enough for that purpose.
Which means someone like me will miss out.

I post on AFF and that is where I expect to see people trying to organise 'AFF meetups' to post.

Not blogs
Not ba97
Not planely
Not spreadsheets
Not whatever

What is wrong with using AFF Meeting thread as the main holder of meetups and if people want to use all these other tools as well then that choice is theirs. Some people still prefer ba97 only, some people prefer planely only, some people prefer blogs. I can see I am in the minority. Anyway my 2c.

Have to agree with you John. I used BA97 for a while but gave up. I started using planely and it got too friggin annoying.

The forums have served people well for meets. What I do think would be a good idea though is a template/standardised format that people use to post their flights and lounge times, so people can browse more easily. I'm quite happy to just browse through posts seeing if there's anyone there to catch up with. I don't feel we need more places to spread information thinly. Just my 2c of course.

Something I've always wondered about putting together is a lounges website, similar to the meetings thread, where by people can register the details of when they are scheduled to be in a lounge, and the number of guest spots they have available. That way it makes finding guest spots and other AFFer's far easier than looking through pages of posts.

Something which wouldn't be too hard as an add on would be a "I'm in this lounge now" button which would then tell you details of who else was there and contact details for the person.

With admins permission it probably wouldn't be too hard to to a look through of the meetings threads and automatically add such information in from them as well.

The Monthly Compilation blogs *are* on AFF:
June 2012 - Compiled Lounge Details - Blogs - The Australian Frequent Flyer Online Community
July 2012 - Compiled Lounge Details - Blogs - The Australian Frequent Flyer Online Community
August 2012 - Compiled Lounge Details - Blogs - The Australian Frequent Flyer Online Community

Now this has been moved to the suggestions thread does that mean that anyone from the site will reply at some point? Right now we can't set up such a thread because the mods close it down pending discussion of the suggestion but there is no response to the discussion? Are we are stuck in a dead end loop?

Yes. (It is only eight days since your original post in this thread.)

The reason for what you mentioned was adequately explained to you. (I say adequately as it was accepted without further question)

The mods do not have a meeting daily and have not had one since your last round of questions. Things get discussed and implemented when appropriate. This is done relatively quickly but not instantaneously.

The problem with running it via the blogs is that most people will miss out as the blog statistics indicate that very few actually utilise the facility compared to the forum proper.

Is there a better way to do this within the forum proper :?:

It wasn't adequately explained - I was just being patient pending an official response. :)

I'd welcome an explanation about why threads for meeting those currently in a lounge are not allowed under the current rules? If you're offering that would be great as no one has explained that yet. I understand the monthly threads exist but they clearly serve a different purpose and i don't understand why starting a thread to serve this purpose is against the rules. If you could explain it adequately that would be great because i don't really understand what the rule against it is and the purpose it is trying to serve.

That's not a problem. I just wanted to clarify what the process will be now and ensure that this hasn't been forgotten.

See post #18 from serfty.

It will be an agenda item at the next mods meeting.

Sorry if i wasn't clear: Is there any reason such a thread can't be created right now in the meetups section? We were being told that all such discussion should go in the monthly activity section but it's pretty obvious it doesn't fit there. Serfty adequately explained why he felt it wasn't appropriate for the Velocity section without specific approval from the mods but no one has explained why such a thread can't be created in meetups and why it needs to be in the monthly activity format?
