Hi again all. A question here for the punters, and whether you are one.

Mrs Pineapple and I are booked BNE-LAX in J on QF 15 20 Jul 11, returning on QF16 14 Aug 11.

Separate itineraries as Mrs is travelling courtesy of my QFF points and I bought the QF business sale fare.

The QF seat computer lotto put us in the same seats on each flight; Mrs P in 13K and myself in 11K. Hmmm, bulkhead row, nice one computer:). I could ring up QF and beg for Mrs P to be assigned 11J.

But here's a dilemma, the seat map indicates the aircraft is proposed to be a 4 class 747, with 14 nice looking F seats in the cabin up the front, on both flights. Most blocked, but 4EF are there for the taking

Other threads indicate that getting a 4 class 747 is a bit of a lucky dip (e.g. Dang It! QF have switched Configs on me! - FlyerTalk Forums)QF also have 8 months opportunity to change aircraft.

So would you go for the bulkhead row upstairs, or punt on the F class seats really happening:?:

Oh and do the 747 F seats really have an 8.4 inch screen while J has a 10 inchscreen, as the QF website hints:?: I'm wondering just how much I stand to win from the F seats punt:?:.

I would be pre-selecting 4EF. In my opinion, the row 11 bulkhead is not somewhere I would be aiming to sit. It just does not hold much attraction for me. If looking for a bulk-head row, I would be going for row 23. But if F seats are available for pre-selection, then I would be going down that path. Yes, aircraft changes do happen, and not is probably more likely than ever. But that would not stop me selecting the best option available at the time.

BNE to LAX is pretty much 4class ER's next year.

4E/F absolutely - they are my preferred seats on all QF 744's!

Easy access to aisle for both PAX so no one has to climb over and/or be climbed over.

EF shows 16A/B and J/K as blocked ( both flights) another option if you don't want a punt on F is to ask seating to allocate these to you. This is my second favourite seat in 747 after 1A ;)

Wow, three mods in a row. I am honoured:)

Alas, Mrs Pineapple has a morbid fear of exit rows, she is convinced that if she sits in one the door will pop out and her with it.

Don't want to burst bubble but could it be a refurbished 744 without F.

Not with this seating plan:

Yes I agree the seating plan is as you descirbe. maybe the data has not been uploaded until the aircraft are rolled out.

If you try to pruchase ticket F is only available via SYD and MELB, pricing is only for J from BRIS.

I do hope there is F.

If it is the next gen seating they have total flat bed

I would still be selecting 4EF now and if its is eventually a non-F zone-A cabin, 4EF will still exist as Skybeds and be as good as any with easy access to aisles and overhead storage.

QF are not putting the refurbished two class onto BNE-LAX, they are being used for SYD-SIN-FRA and SYD-NRT, from next month QF15/16 will be operated by a 4 class 744ER sold as two class, so premium pax in J get to select seats in the F cabin while those booked in Y may get a skybed at best or Y+.

Definately ASAP allocate 4EF. :shock::shock::!::!::!:

Best outcome: F seats. Both have aisle access without needing to climb over one another.

Worst outcome: J seats but not bulkhead.

Having sat in 11JK on that exact flight (on the 2 class AC), you get noise every time someone goes to the toilet. I'd actually go 13 over 11 if travelling with mrsodc. There's also a risk of being moved out of 11 anyway (11JK has the bassinet).

Is there overhead storage above 3/4EF on the no-F 744?

I am flying SDYD-SIN-DEL (connecting to 9W in DEL) and have allocated 3B but some fscker has now grabbed 3A. I am thinking of moving to 3E (3F is showing as empty currently and even if filled they wont be climbing over me) but am concerned that I wont have overhead storage.

Definitely go with 4EF:!::shock::!: The seats/beds are bigger and not angled, smaller cabin, less noise...

That might be the WP shadow???

Ahh - hadn't thought of that. It is J9 C9 D3 I6 (wtf? more I than D???) on the flight so maybe that is luck...

There is that little bar thing in front of 3EF isn't there on the FRA 744?

I like that seat map Markis10. The SG version has rather more blocked seats:( cheers
