Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

That sounds really good. Can you give us an example?

Timetables published by State Transit Authority of NSW used to have a small print saying buses may wait for late arriving trains. That's how I learnt about this.

Here is a discussion on drivers waiting for late arriving trains.

You can't always rely on this though, some depots have drivers who are gear knobs ......

In the context of Lara-Avalon, I suspect drivers not going to wait.

Worthy of note, these seem to be timed specifically for Geelong originating traffic, most services depart 10 mins after arrival of Geelong trains and people commuting from Geelong. From Melbourne trains no pattern - some literally 1 min (with common sense you'd allow 20 mins). some 2 or 3 mins. One 43 mins (the late night one).

2 adults and a 6yo (from Sydney) need to travel from ADL to the city.

Can the adults just tap a bank card on the bus and is there a child fare?

Re: Adelaide:
How old is the child, under 5 no fare, ie, free, just noted, he/she is 6.
Above 5, really need a students id, but and their own Adelaidemetro card, most bus drivers wont warble, some might give you the spiel.
Debit or credit card will work, just tap on the slide with the ripple, not on the screen, you will hear a pling, ...
It might not show up immediately, but should be that evening, as the data is not sent to the depot till the driver ends his shift.
Not like Sydney/Melbourne, where its sent automatically, in Adelaide, it all depends on when the driver taps his card onto the reader, and returns to depot.
$2.60 per adult, off peak 2 hrs, 9.01am to 2.59pm, weekdays, all day Sun.
$4.55 per adult, peak 2 hrs, all day Sat, before 9.01am, and after 3pm weekdays.
Its only tap on, no need to tap your bank card off.

From Adelaidemetro:
Children or students aged 5 to 14 are also eligible to travel on a student fare but do not need to carry a student I.D.
But because you dont have the students Adelaidemetro card, it would be on the good heart of the bus driver at the airport.
===
Bus drivers also now do not sell tix, and paper tix do not exist anymore, so its Adelaidemetro card/debit/credit card all the way.
===
Bank cards will only charge one pax at a go, and its only on full fare, so when you get on the J1(City)/J1G/J2G to city then Golden Grove, explain to driver your situation.
===
Dont get on the Glenelg J1/J2.
