Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

Might be a slight hassle, though.

Not really. Less hassle to get to Albury than most of Melbourne. Just takes longer, but only one change (connect from 901 bus to the Albury train at Broadmeadows.

Canberra public transport fares are increasing 2.75% from tomorrow. (They only announced this increase today)

From the start of the school year, the bus network is changing due to road works on the Commonwealth Ave bridge. They've announced that changes are happening, but have not yet given any timetable details.
Routes 2 (Fishwick - Train Station - Civic - Belconnen) and 3 (Airport - Civic - Belconnen) will no longer continue into the west Belconnen suburbs. New routes (12 and 13) will take over the Belconnen suburb part of those routes. No detail on frequency of those new routes (it is going to be very annoying if the bus I require to get to work is going to get cut from every 10-12 mins (weekdays) and every 30 mins (weekends) to every 30 mins on weekdays to as bad as every hour on Sat before 6pm and sunday before noon and every 2 hours on sunday afternoon).
Route 4 (main intertown route) is having frequency cut from every 5ish minutes during weekdays to every 15.
Other "rapid" routes are also having slight decreases in frequency.
Most routes getting timing changes with many routes in civic getting route adjustments.

The fare increase doesn't bother me (I'm 70 ish) but the timetable changes seem rather savage, for someone living in outer Belconnen. Just cost saving I guess (not surprised seeing all those empty buses driving around). Not to mention the Out of Service buses, which seem to outnumber the in service ones,

They are saying the changes are due to the construction work on the Commonwealth Ave bridge. They are closing each span for a year, so cutting from 6 lanes to 3 for 2 years. They have the 3 open lanes set up as 1 lane for traffic in each direction with the 3rd for buses and emergency services only use in one direction.
A large amount of bus services travel across the bridge and they "need" to cut 1600 hours worth of bus travel daily due to the expected delays the road work will cause. The current network has 4 local routes and 6 of the 9 "rapid" routes cross the bridge. At some point, they are going to close the bridge again in order to build a new bridge in between the 2 current spans once the next stage of light rail construction reaches that point.

If they ever get around to releasing a timetable for these changes, I might have to look at transferring back to a prior store. If the times they roll out for the 12 and 13 routes are as bad as expected, it's going to make it hard, if not impossible, to get to and from work at the needed times.

Fastest - Direct Train - 36 minutes (includes 12 mins walking) - $19
Cheapest - 3x Busses via DFO (free shuttle bus)

At some point, they are going to close the bridge again in order to build a new bridge in between the 2 current spans once the next stage of light rail construction reaches that point.

Perhaps the ACT didn't need a second stage of light rail. and then this nonsense mightn't happen. It's not as if there was a problem with the transport arrangements across the bridge and onwards anyway. But I live in the ACT and know the politics and then see my rates bill.

Well the cheapest public transport to/from any airport today (and every other Saturday/Sunday for last month and this month) is using one of the public buses to/from MEL. $0.00 to anywhere in the state.

Jinxed myself there. No public transport from Bendigo to anywhere right now due to fires - not even rail replacement buses taking a wide berth around the fires . So $61 to get to airport by private bus. . Although my BIL drove me instead as he was taking my niece to Melbourne anyway.

But something funny going on that they’re not even running trains to Kyneton well south of the affected fire zone or any rail replacement coaches to Bendigo 3 days later. There’s about a dozen ways of getting to the city without going through the affected area.
