Might be a slight hassle, though.
Not really. Less hassle to get to Albury than most of Melbourne. Just takes longer, but only one change (connect from 901 bus to the Albury train at Broadmeadows.

The fare increase doesn't bother me (I'm 70 ish) but the timetable changes seem rather savage, for someone living in outer Belconnen. Just cost saving I guess (not surprised seeing all those empty buses driving around). Not to mention the Out of Service buses, which seem to outnumber the in service ones,Canberra public transport fares are increasing 2.75% from tomorrow. (They only announced this increase today)
They are saying the changes are due to the construction work on the Commonwealth Ave bridge. They are closing each span for a year, so cutting from 6 lanes to 3 for 2 years. They have the 3 open lanes set up as 1 lane for traffic in each direction with the 3rd for buses and emergency services only use in one direction.Seems like the unions have got the ACT Govt over a barrel on making efficiencies.
They could work wellAdelaide Airport (to Rundle Mall)
Fastest - Direct Bus - 21 minutes - $3.70
Cheapest Weekend Terminal Parking - $85
Brisbane Airport (to Queen St Mall)
Fastest - Direct Train - 36 minutes (includes 12 mins walking) - $19
Cheapest - 3x Busses via DFO (free shuttle bus)

Perhaps the ACT didn't need a second stage of light rail. and then this nonsense mightn't happen. It's not as if there was a problem with the transport arrangements across the bridge and onwards anyway. But I live in the ACT and know the politics and then see my rates bill.At some point, they are going to close the bridge again in order to build a new bridge in between the 2 current spans once the next stage of light rail construction reaches that point.
Well the cheapest public transport to/from any airport today (and every other Saturday/Sunday for last month and this month) is using one of the public buses to/from MEL. $0.00 to anywhere in the state.
Obviously the bus schedulers live on the Southside. That's also where the most floating voters live, I imagine.Transport Canberra finally released their timetables for this "temporary" network change.
R2 (train station to Belconnen via Civic) and R3 (Airport to Belconnen via Civic) are reduced frequency from every 10-12 mins on weekdays to every 15 mins and every 30 on weekends.
The Belconnen sections of those routes are moved into new routes 12 and 13. Haven't looked to see how well they connect at Belconnen.
12 and 13 are every 30 mins all week (had been expecting a cut to hourly or every 2 hours on weekends as with the other "local" routes) and every 20ish mins on weekday morning peak.
R5 (Wanniassa, Erindale, Calwell, Lanyon - Woden - Civic) and R6 (Barton, Narrabundah, Woden, Canberra Hospital) continue through to Belconnen (both currently end at the ANU) to cover frequancy cuts to R2, 3 and 4.
They also say "Bus services will be monitored and reviewed and refined to align with demand, impact and operational conditions."
They like to change bus timetables at the start of school terms.
Does this mean they are likely to adjust timetables roughtly every 3 months?
