I am having problems getting credit card approval on a one-way QF Wellington to Melbourne flight using an Australian Bank issued Amex to book a flight via the Qantas website. Qantas says the card gets declined when they try to pay (they tried processing payment yesterday evening at booking time and retried again today with no success), and my bank says there is no problem with the card and that they cannot even see the payment request coming through to get approved/declined.

At the very same time, I can book a one-way QF Melbourne to Wellington flight (two of them, in fact) on the Qantas website with the same card and it is processed and approved without a problem.

I am having other payments made on my Amex to other merchants with no problems. It can't be the card that is suffering problems.

Therefore, i would suggest it is a problem at the Qantas end. But Qantas begs to differ....

Are there any Qantas reps looking at this thread who might be able to assist? RedRoo??

I the same problem recently when trying to pay for my AKL-LAX JASA. My Earth AMEX was refused a couple of times. I checked with Westpac and they could see the refusals but didn't know why. Eventually I gave up trying to use the AMEX and paid for it with the MasterCard forfeiting a few hundred points because of the time limits getting it ticketed in a short time frame.

A Qantas rep did call me a couple of times and we tried to work through it but for some reason paying in $NZ was the problem.

I have made scores of ex NZ bookings using an Oz Amex with no problems - most recent was about ten days ago ... and was charged in NZ$.

An update......I called the Platinum help desk this evening to check again on this as I still have not received an e-ticket, and after speaking with the very excellent Matthew in Hobart, and a few keystrokes on his keyboard, the payment was processed. The problem, whatever it was, has gone away. A complete mystery to me on what happened here. Life returns to normal.... :)

Thanks Matthew in Hobart - you were a great help!!

Thanks for the update. Glad Matthew was able to assist you with this.
