Can someone help witha few PC queries?

I notice with Priority Club, it is possible to automatically collect Airline miles or transfer the PC points to Airline Miles at a later Date.

  • If choosing the automatic "Opt for airmiles" option, do all PC points become airmiles? Does this include points received from promotions etc?
  • Qantas is only available as the "Opt for miles" option. Other program, say Singapore Airlines can "Opt for miles, of be transferred at a later date. Is there any difference in the Redeeming Rate if you choose to automatically "Opt for miles" or transfer them at a later date? I understand that there is probably a significant time lag in the "Transfer at a later date" option, but I'm just curious about the value of the transfer points.

Any advice from Priority club members would be greatly appreciated.

Is it better to accumulate PC points or QF FF points?

I am thinking of spending 6 nights in New Zealand made up of 2 nights in Crowne Plaza Christchurch, 2 nights in Holiday Inn Wellington and 2 nights in Crowne Plaza Auckland. The way I understand it is you can either get

  • 10 PC points for every $1 spent at Crowne Plaza. Is this room only or does it include meals, mini bar, parking etc? Does this include Holiday Inn?
  • 600 QF FF points
If points are accumulated in PC, what is the transfer rate to QF?

Hope this helps.

Thanks etiong and welcome to AFF.

When I click on Redeem Points and then Asia Pacific and then Airline Rewards I do not see Qantas listed.

I can see this is not going to be an easy decision to make!

Spend NZ$838 and collect 8,380 PC points and if deciding to transfer to QF later get 1,676 QFF points or collect 2,600 QFF points immediately with the 3 stays in New Zealand.

Hi John,

You are right. There isn't anywhere that talk about the conversion from PC to QFF. The only information I could find is earn per stay which is 600 points per stay.

Qantas Airlines

At all InterContinental Hotels Group brands except InterContinental:
-Earn 600 miles per stay outside Australia.
-Earn 3 QFF points per AUD$ spent on full folio on stays inside Australia.

In addition extra PC points can be earned from restaurants, room services, drinks and car parks.

I would also suggest you visit the link to register for the double points or double miles program. That will at least get you more points/miles.

You should also look at which hotels you would be likely to redeem your points at. 30,000 PC points gets you into ICs in Tahiti, Europe, New York, other very expensive places over $300 USD a night. Or you could have 6000 airline miles. AFAIK, you need 20,000 miles at least in MOST programs to get an award so that's not even 1/3 of an award.

NZ$838 will first be converted to US$ and then to PC points, so you will get something less that 8380 PC points, depending on the exchange rate at the time of the stay. Also, bear in mind that PC is quite hit and miss as to whether you get points on tax components (GST). Sometimes I get them, and sometimes I don't.

Also, as you may have surmised, you cannot convert PC points to QFF points (at least not directly) if you have PC points creditted to your account. You can only get them if you have your stay creditted as QFF points.

My understanding is that the only way to convert to QFF points is to use the "Opt for miles" automated option.

The program will not allow you to convert to QFF at a later date.

I'm hoping that someone will tell me that my understanding is incorrect - anyone?

I wish I could tell you that your understanding is incorrect, but it agrees with my understanding.

If you dont stay in priority club hotels much, then I would think it is a no brainer.

Even if you get more valuable PC points than QFF points, then are only valuable if you can pool enough for a decent reward.

Since you are already a QFF member who accumulates reasonable amount of QFF points then I am sure you can easily find ways to use the QFF points earned through IC hotel stay. Can you say the same for PC points?

Not likely to visit/stay at any of those places anytime soon. By the sounds of things it would take US$3,000 spend at IC hotels to get a 1 free expensive night or US$2,000 for a not so expensive night.

I have obviously misunderstood the condition of converting back to US$. If accumulating PC points it could take me well into the next decade before I could redeem a free night.

Kiwi Flyer, it appears that it may best to credit any IC hotel stays to QFF.

unfortunately I think you are correct - I'm kind of in the same boat, I blindly collected points for a while, realised it was going to take forever to get any kind of benefit from them (because stay with wide variety of hotels: Starwood, Mariott etc) so changed to miles - QFF and now have 6000pts sitting there collecting dust!

If staying for a few nights , then PC can be boosted by sgning up for various promos. I have found that this year there has been a stay 5 nights get 10,000 points every quarter and there others such as the double miles promos / stay 3 get 3000 bonus etc which have boosted the base miles quite nicely

Less than $800 USD (2 nights in KWI HI and 8 nights in CAI IC Pyramids) got me about 45,000 PC points with all the bonuses!

If you don't get any bonuses, then they would be MUCH harder to collect.

So basically, 8,000 PC points earned and 37,000 PC points in bonuses.

Almost enough for a 2 night stay. Now that is a little more worthwhile. Where to find these bonuses. Off to do some research.

I raked in some 10,000 bonuses which I gleaned from FT a few months ago plus some book online, new member, stuff like that. Plus I did a survey which got 1000.

This just got more interesting. Someone posted on FT the Thalasso Bora Bora is redeeming awards! Woo hoo!

You should find FT is a good resource for finding bonuses.

Yes I will need do some research on FT if I am going to achieve better PC points/status then what is currently available.

Picked up 91,000 points earlier this year just for a 3 week stay in the Middle East in 5 different cities. Those bonuses certainly do add up quickly!!

Great news about the Thalasso Bora Bora. If only we could use QF points on the codeshare to PPT it would make a great holiday rather cheap.

I made the choice to collect the accommodation points and feel it has paid off for me.

I spend about 10 nights a year in hotels (for business) and with all the promotions and bonus points this averages out to at least 1 night free per year in a Holiday Inn level hotel (which I am able to use for personal stays) - there are no extra charges.

In comparison, 10 domestic one-way trips on QF equals +/-10,000 points (most of my travel is Syd/Mel) and a FF ticket will cost 8,000 points + taxes or $14,000 (no taxes).
