My membership year ends on 30 September.
Having slid from Platinum to Gold a couple of years ago after an unpleasant incident caused me to shun Qantas for a while, I was on track to regain Platinum status this year.
However on or about 3 September, with 1235 status credits, and bookings for flights which would earn 280 more this month, I received a notice that I had succeeded in retaining Gold status.
Yesterday I returned from New Caledonia, earning Platinum status as I boarded the flight in Nouméa.
I have two boarding passes for the subsequent SYD-PER flight - one issued in Nouméa showing me as Gold, the other issued in Sydney showing Platinum. A midly interesting little momento!
Today I checked my PO Box to discover a letter from QF enclosing a new Gold QFF card which, of course, is already obsolete and useless.
Just wondered if everyone receives these about a month before the end of their membership year.
It seems very wasteful!

Pretty standard for Qantas to send renewal kits out at the start of your final month, in my experience. For most it probably turns out correctly.

Probably not worth the effort to figure out who may go up a level in the final month.

I've never had to worry about getting my status pack LOL, but it sounds like QF are damned if they do and damned if they don't (send the packs a bit early because of the vagaries of courier delivery time frames)

Easily resolved by making the cards valid for a month after the end of year date.
Isn't there some other airline that has adopted that approach?🤨

Id say for 99% it will be fine, and save lots of phone calls about people worried about upcoming trips and status being recognised,
or the confusion from having different status and card expiry dates, particularly with cards expiring every month (unlike some of the hotel schemes)

Yes some other airlines do this but still doesn't guarantee getting the card in time before expiry of the old card. Airpoints manage to muck this up every year, and when you complain say they only have a target of delivery within 6 weeks which is useless for a 1 month overlap and in any case a ridiculous length of time for post within same country.

I have a WP card with expiry for July-2021 which they sent in July-2019. They'd sent me a July-2020 card 5 days prior so it was quite a surprise.

I was on 3,000 or so SCs at the time, maybe that had something to do with it?

Sounds like a mistake - I wonder if the system still views your expiry date as 2020 - have you checked your electronic card in the app?
At least if you drop down next year you may be able to use it for lounge access in non-QF lounges!

Sounds like anther example of Qantas IT covering itself in glory.

Let us know if the Platinum card ever turns up.
No platinum card has arrived so far ...

A year or two ago I cancelled my QF Cash facility to get a plain card again. Since then, every time I have requested a new card it hasn't arrived. So don't worry that they're printing cards you'll never use, as they never print a card I've asked a dozen times for.

So you've returned to the fold.

Grass wasn't greener or did you just not fly as much in the last couple of years?

I'm interested to know if you did "crossover" for a little and now have come back, and why if applicable.

Exact same thing for me - including not getting a card when I've called to chase it up. Been told its on its way; then "I can see that its definitely on its way" etc. Nope.

After 2 years I did get a plain, non Mastercard card - can't remember what i did to unblock the system.

Not sure if this question is for me but there was a nasty incident with a CSM which put me off QF for a while.
After that I flew less for a couple of years and wasn't motivated to fly more or to make an effort to keep status.
I did fly J with VA during that interval and I actually prefer their "The Business" product to domestic J with QF.
However their international partnerships aren't as convenient as OW and now they are using their A330s for Asian flights the transcons are mostly 737s.
I don't find them appealing at all.
