Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I understand that, my point was there's no motivation for them to recognise Australian vaccines at the moment as Australia is a green country and we can't travel anyway.

I am sure with the close diplomatic relations, the minute Australians can travel and they put us on the Amber list, that recognition will come quickly.
I don't think being green is greatly relevant given there are no nonstop flights between the two countries at the moment. Particularly if you go via the Middle East.

In all honesty my particular beef is being a fully vaccinated Brit flying to the UK and having to quarantine when Americans (sometimes with fake certificates) and Europeans don't.

I’m the same as you. Fully vaccinated dual citizen.
I don’t think there will be a problem going to the UK at all.
Australia is a green country right now and if it were to change to Amber the same people who negotiated the Pfizer swap will be able to get AZ/Pfizer /Moderna done here recognized in the UK and vv.

The AU-UK FTA is almost as important to the UK as it is to us. I'm certain neither country want something as simple as the UK recognising vaccinations in Australia to derail that process. Travel between the UK and Australia is very important to many Australians including myself.

At some future point, I am sure it won't. But I'm heading back to the UK via a non-green country later this month and unless the rules change by then I will be heading into home quarantine.

Incidentally UK jabs are already recognised here in Australia - see COVID-19 vaccinations.

I see Canada has recognised a batch of vaccines and they can be given in any country... translations where required must be in English or French. Seems much more straightforward than the UK's model.

The issue isn't whether a country is on the amber list or not and it's not something that is aimed at Australia particularly in any way. It is simply that the UK do not currently accept any vaccines administered outside the UK, the US and the EU, even to UK citizens, whether or not they actually have approved those vaccines. Which means if you were jabbed in Australia (with AZ or with Pfizer), you are treated as unvaccinated for the purpose of testing and home quarantine. I'm sure it will change in time, but currently that's how it is.

You are correct, however, Australia is green (I think) at the moment. So therefore, it actually doesn't matter if you are vaccinated or not. For Amber countries, that is where vaccination status becomes an issue. If you are coming from an amber country, you will only be treated as "fully vaccinated" if you've had your jab in the UK/US/EU, as Louie-m correctly stated.

In saying that though, who knows what colour rating Australia will be come Dec/Jan.

That's not correct, the UK certifies vaccination programs in addition to the vaccines themselves. You could have British made AZ and it still wouldn't be recognised. What you say is true for the EU but refer to my post above, the wheels are in motion so to speak.

Thanks, was getting mixed up with EU.

One suspects by the time Australian residents get the chance to travel to the other side of the world, this might just be sorted out. Or hope at least.

It matters if you fly through anywhere other than Singapore or Hong Kong. So Etihad, Qatar, Emirates, Malaysian (if they are still flying to Oz) are out if you want to avoid quarantine.

I very much doubt Australia will not stay green.

Either some sort of understanding if you just transit, or accepting AU vaccines.

i'm surprised UAE isnt green when it has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world

True - although between now and December, I somehow thing the travel traffic lights in the UK will be dismantled - I hope so anyway.

It’s only recently gone Amber, it used to be red

I think I read the (internal) border to Abu Dhabi is still closed to Dubai if you aren’t vaccinated.

SA are expanding their home quarantine trial to international arrivals - Saw this on the ABC news stream during NSW's press conference this morning. Woohoo!

“SA Health expanding home quarantine trial to international arrivals

In mid-September, about 50 ADF personnel are expected to arrive in South Australia after international deployments.

SA Health says it's assessing their suitability for the program, with participants needing to have a suitable place to isolate and evidence of being fully vaccinated.

The trial started in early August, with 12 people so far completing home quarantine and another 32 currently in isolation.”

The SA solution (and WA) is ridiculous. 14 days at home, fully vaxxed, with your phone charged on you at all times basically, lest you miss a random call for a facial ID request and a visit from the police. We are already trialing at home quarantine in practically every state (close contacts).

In Singapore (an authoritarian state at that) - isolate at home until a -ve PCR test (at worst 3 days).

Yeah nah.

It’s a start ok? A trial. It isn’t a binary thing. For internationals.

A) early days so conservative. Just getting tech and process down pat. Will be somewhere between 3 - 7 days hoke quarantine to start, and eventually 1 - days, then NIL.

B) SA are COVID ZERO and scaredy cats, not wanting any risk, so 14 days suitable for them. I imagine all states would agree to same terms of quarantine length. Good news we should now within next 2 months what terms will be.

Out of interest, what makes you think that? UK home quarantine is 10 days and always has been, they've not felt it appropriate to reduce it despite it being around for 18 months or so now.

Australia hasn’t worked out what is the appropriate time for home quarantine. One State gvt has pointed to Singapore which has a 7 Day home quarantine for some instance, another gvt has pointed to a two test and release (which could mean as low as 3 days home quarantine.

I guess/hope we find out more after National Cabinet next week
