Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Well QF109 leaves tomorrow morning from DRW (to LHR) at 08:25, we’ll have to check seat map after it departs. Although of course one flight isn’t necessarily representative.

Hmmm... that wasn't one of the flights listed... I wonder if anyone would know to book it?

I wonder how full the flights are. I can't see why anyone would book PEY if they could get three seats in economy, especially with no service.
They could choose to put a lot of additional cargo in some of the economy area depending on how many passengers book.

Apparently the papers will be running a story tomorrow that the PM has advised that the international borders will remain closed indefinitely.

So essentially status quo?

God I hope not - might explain all the comments from the various ministers this week though.

Australia seems to be operating like a satellite state of NZ- I don't see how Aus could alter its current approach unless and until NZ allow a loosening of their border restrictions, otherwise wouldn't the Aus-NZ bubble burst?

Then the PM can expect more departures via NZ. PM acting more like a state premier in the run up to an election.

In 2 weeks time I will be fully vaccinated, my elderly parents in the UK are fully vaccinated.

If it wasn't for the uncertainty of getting back to Aus I would definitely be doing an NZ departure to UK via Singapore.

As I have 3 teenagers still at school and a job with a mortgage to pay it's just not an option.

Has anyone taken the NZ departure option yet?? Obviously they wouldn't have tried to return to Australia yet as the bubble hasn't long been opened but I wonder how it was leaving NZ?

😔

If this ban remains in place in June 2022 that's exactly what I will do and be damned with the consequences for me.
But in reality it is status quo with that announcement. And an election advertisement

its paywalled but here's an article on the borders being shut indefinitely

whos he trying to fool...never gonna happen

This infuriates me - however, it will happen. Australia is unlikely to open up for a few years, maybe a decade, maybe more? The problem is some of us on this forum hate this. Some people on this forum, as well as the majority of the population want the borders closed indefinitely.

Managed to find an 'unpaywalled' snippet - PM says Australia's borders will remain 'closed to the world' indefinitely.

Which I don't think includes Aussies or permanent residents.

And we know it doesn't include students, seasonal workers, sports people, or those working in critical industries such as entertainment.

So pretty much the only people that won't be allowed to come will be tourists.

Came to post the article ftom today but you guys beat me to it...sad sad news indeed! :( :

This is the opposite of what we was saying, risk will change, more like common cold, etc. Hoping to hell I can go somewhere next year, and big European trip planned for 2023.

You can't keep emergency Biosecurity laws in indefinately.

Voting Labour in now matter what if he actually said this.

Still have faith ion Bill Gate, who states COVID concerns worldwide should be mostly gone by Dec 2022, and travel and life pretty much back to pre pandemic.

There's a bit of a flaw in his argument... if Australians have truly accepted the need to remain isolated and keep borders closed, there'd be no need to have the ban on leaving, or the need for exemptions. People wouldn't want to travel.

That's not the case.
