Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Some shocking stories of people who are not able to get back to Oz. I don't believe from my observations there has ever been an issue at any time getting out of the US as flights have continued to run. The people in India, surely they could put on a few flights to get them out of there asap. There are going to be so many issues with visas and over staying, people will run out of money. Going to get ugly quickly,.

Even our Premier is saying that people have had enough time to get back. He has N@I and our namby pamby people will only agree with him as they too have N@I

So, and I’m just spitballing here, what if people went straight home and we give them ankle bracelets ?

Maybe :
- Initial quarantine
- Medical check for symptoms and testing 2 days after arrival
- Release those testing negative and without symptoms with ankle bracelet.
- Coupled with a more formal notice and pre-approval (not just a slip of paper with some instructions on it like before, but a legal personally address notice.

Or at least from low risk destinations.

If someone came from Taiwan or NZ right now, for example, into Victoria, the risk of imposing 14 days of self isolation would negligible, in comparison to the thousands of residents in self isolation. Seems a waste of resources putting those people into quarantine.

That isn't the problem.

I've been trying to get people home from Paris. The main issue has been cancelling and changing flights, we ended up maxing out credit cards in the process.

Its like playing musical chairs but with hardly any chairs.
Yes because they charge you straight away and then take 12+ weeks to refund, even when they cancel. It’s pretty crook.

Is your name “Minogue”? Well, if yes, go directly home, collect $200.

Interesting! I mean just having a look shows daily Qatar airways flights CDG-DOH-SYD, and the flights have been operating every day for the last 14 days. Lufthansa and United have daily flights CDG-SFO-SYD. (Lol - I found the $24K business class fare! SFO-SYD on United, one way at AUD24K, although seriously, economy is available almost every day for AUD2000... so folk must have money to only be considering business class!)
I think the issue is that people have Y tickets but they get cancelled or ‘offered’ an offer they can’t refuse to upgrade if they want to be sure of travelling.

Well my family and I have return award J booking in April next year which I booked at late April, so technically I don't have to pay for quarantine as I am SYD based.

However the fact that I will need to take extra 2 weeks to not work would already put me off from taking this trip. I just cannot see how we will travel without vaccine being developed, or at least the travel insurance covers it.
Well assuming you can even get an exit pass from the government to even let you leave the country, and I hear on the Border Control Experiences thread that plenty of people with good reasons are being refused 🙁

Yep, I said this from the start but the only trouble is it prevents the person from leaving home but doesn’t prevent visitors

Indeed.

The problems so far have been mainly generated from the people who do what they are not meant to do, rather than the ones that do.

And if some people have been spreading the virus by having sex with security guards, then I very much doubt that people of like mind are not going to have sex with a friend just because they are wearing an ankle bracelet.

I have seen those reports. But they cap of 50 per flight is only new. Looking at flight schedules, QR seems to have been offering a fairly consistent daily schedule, no cancellations. I am wondering whether it really is true that people are 'stuck' in Europe or the USA with absolutely no way to get home?

I heard from ABC news that no international flights are permitted to and from Melbourne until further notice, is that true?

While it was expected that the two week ban will be extended, but now it means no one from Victoria can leave the country, given it is not possible to transit in another state from Victoria.

Yes it is true. Because of the Victorian hotel quarantine saga.

At least it seems the number of cases remained stable in Victoria for now that there's hope for that to start going down in the next week as the CHO hopes. Hopefully it will go on that way then Victoria can come out from lockdown soon.

As I posted above, it is not completely true. Only that flights into Melbourne can not carry passengers. Airline can carry freight into Melbourne. Airlines can, and are carrying passengers from Melbourne.

For those who are optimistic about vaccines, I know many of you dismiss the comments from the realists (and pessimists), but this comment from someone who should know a bit about what it takes to get a vaccine into the market place might be worth taking note of ...

Some rather encouraging results from the Oxford University Vaccine, with Phase 1 trial results due next Monday 20th July.

Reports has mentioned that AZD1222 vaccine can be available by October, so let's pray this vaccine will get approved and we can return to normal as soon as possible.
