Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

In the ongoing nursing home 'commission' NSW Dept of Health emails & texts produced with DoH telling Dorothy Henderson Lodge NOT to send any patients & two ambulances turned away.

As it was 'mentioned' at the Commission - our local Federal members said they could do NOTHING about it.

So, before that 'out' presents itself for Victorian Federal members.....

There were reports in Vic (I have no background info on the report) that a certain aged care home operator looking to abrogate their responsibilities rang 000 and said "send 100 ambulances now" .

Under those circumstances, if true, I can understand them being told it wasn't going to happen.

Dorothy Henderson Lodge is in NSW and was the first one to have a CV case after a worker came back from Iran or Italy (cannot remember which, 2nd aged care facility was someone who came back from the other country) and worked for a number of days.

Aged Care Royal Commission has been provided copies of emails from NSW Dept of Health substantiating all the claims made that the NSW Govt stridently denied for months.

A bit like the Ruby Princess - everybody else at fault but NSW State Govt - until the Commission finds copious evidence.

That's one of the reasons I gave Andrews a lot of kudos that I wouldn't normally give a politician when less than half a day from finding out someone may or may not have screwed up in hotel quarantine (and most likely hearing a few excuses being made) he appointed an independent judge with a very wide ranging brief to uncover the dirt regardless of how it happened.

Good grief. Although one of the banes of Casualty is the stream of people from aged care homes who are not sick enough for hospital care but the aged care home just dont have the resources (dont want to spend the profits) to provide them with some extra care. And of course they arrive by ambulance.

Typical profit focused organisation. Wherever possible socialise the losses and privatise the profits. That this cost shifting is allowed is disgraceful but typical of right wing governments the world over.
There are some very good profit based organisations around and which do a powerful lot of good for local communities, and the best one I can think of instantly is Andrew Forrest and Fortescue. Being profit driven does not automatically equate with nasty. However the Nursing Home Industry as a whole is not a shining example.

I get a bit weary of politics being drawn into such posts I may make because I am referring to an industry and not a political framework because life is not good and evil in a binary fashion.

2021. July.

Quite simply, not going to happen. Sorry. :(

There is a slim, a tiny chance, that some sort of vaccine is available in the new year. But that is best case scenario. I suggest that to inform oneself of this, you should source medicos, not governments. Even in the best case scenario that is possibly real in Australia, vaccinations would appear initially for a relative few - an obvious reality due to production issues. So if the absolute best scenario evolves, we may see in Australia a trickle of vaccines starting in the first quarter of 2021. But all the serious medicos I have seen are unanimous in saying this is reckless optimism. That we are still a year off a solid vaccine, even if such is managed.

No. No. No. I used to be such optimist, until I learnt a tad more. International travel is stuffed until quarantine issues are no longer an issue. We will never accept international arrivals until the world has solid vaccines. We will never accept Aussies returning until they are proven safely vaccinated. So far we have no surety of vaccines. And the next bridge, even if such vaccines are invented, is that they are actually available.

Rather than predict dates, a truly crystal ball nonsense, I would predict scenarios. Over the next year or two there will be countless miraculous vaccines appear. but how many will actually be real? No one on the planet knows the answer to this question. Until a truly proven vaccine is made universally available, we will stay in the status quo.

But it's vaccine + improved treatments + less virulent strains + new rapid testing.

Even if there's no vaccine, or anything else... I really can't see the Feds being able to ban, legally, all international travel for nearly two years. I'll be launching the HC challenge!!

Very interesting Q and A on right now 100% on borders including international borders, fed and state governments getting slammed for the caps, why aren’t they using the secondary international air ports to process and quarantine and a constitutional expert actually suggesting the whole international ban is unconstitutional.

Mel, think about it. Your desire for travel is a personal thing, that engulfs the rest of the population with added health risks. Why should everyone else "pay" for your whims?

It is distasteful, but real and understandable, all the politics and sides in this debate. I am a resident in Queensland at the moment. We love the border closure. Because we are living in a state that is almost normal. Schools are open, holiday maker's frequent our holiday areas, etc. We can do this because we have so few cases of Covid. Victoria is is in a totally different nightmare with their restrictions. We, as in Qld , do not want to be part of that. We did our hard closures earlier in the year. We all sufferred that. And we succesfully "beat the virus" in that time. To open to the southern states simply makes us subject to the failures or reality of other places where we had no control.
