This network is very Sydney centric, which makes me think that QF, Sydney Airport, the NSW Government and the Federal Government are all on the same page. The international border will open to NSW and any other state that wishes to join.

This also has the potential benefit of working to avoid a further federal bailout of QF.

Your parents as well as all elderly people have the right to choose to be vaccinated and move about freely in absence of lockdowns (which I personally am not in favour of though I am compliant).

I don't see why millions of people are denied the right to see their loved ones overseas and are losing the businesses they have spent years on just so a particular demographic can go to Coles, Starbucks and the RSL. It's not just tourism. Tourists go shopping, to hairdressers, use services. It's all a domino effect. Hairdressers lose income so don't renovate their houses, buy cars or stop spending. Then those businesses are suffering. Australia can't go on like this! Our mental health is trashed, this country is spiralling in to a sort of xenophobia which to me is more scary than any virus.
 
All of my elderly relatives are fully vaccinated with AZ the youngest of which is still in their 60s. The elderly have had plenty of time to get vaccinated. We need to set a date and start to open up. If some of the elderly still refuse to get vaccinated then they should be allowed to face the consequences of their actions.

Unfortunately those consequences could crash the healthcare system which has consequences for all of us including people who are not Covid positive.

I'm Joe Schmo Economy, couldn't give a cough about lounges. Don't believe Qantas can re-start anything out of the country nor Fed's allow us, but if it happens, WOOHOO. Then the issue of how quarantine works?

They are fully vaccinated. But the second dose didn't happen until late June June 2021. Around two months ago. They were some of the first to sign up, so there will be others in the age group that have only just finished getting their second doses. We're talking a couple weeks!

yes, people want to see loved ones overseas. I want to do that too. All my father's family is overseas, he wants to do that. But quality of life in Australia, and me being able to see my loved ones here is just as important?

But my folks aside, the flow-on effects you mention are real. My mother wants to go to the hairdresser. To the chiropodist. My father likes to go to the bank, to the markets shopping. My father had elective surgery. Those things may not have been possible, or had to be delayed, if we hadn't been going for covid zero.

Australia can't go on like this. We were waiting for the vaccine. That's here now. And we'll hit targets in a another few weeks.
 
Sadly QLD Premier has just announced they are building Wellcamp quarantine unilaterally. Seems convinced that 14 day managed quarantine is staying for years. Seems to suggest we'd only open to other countries who are covid zero.

I really think in 6 months this will be a white elephant that they do not dare talk about, QLD and WA are purposefully trying to miss the train and they are going to have egg on their face for it.

Hope MEL to SYD flights are back to normal by then. What will this mean for home quarantine (if required) for people in MEL? Will the Dreamliner fly on from SYD to MEL?
 
There is no way Qantas haven't drawn up these plans without consulting high level government sources first. With previous Qantas plans they were all optimistic as none of them were tied to vaccination dates.

Now we know we should hit 80% by December, so I think this will likely dovetail with future government announcements unless we get unexpected changes before (eg a significantly vaccine resistant strain).

Big question will be under what basis we open up initially - would expect Singapore would be quarantine free. But would US/UK need 7 days' home quarantine for vaccinated travelers? That would seem realistic, but in this case it would significantly impact on demand (and may be why Qantas is holding back the 380s)
