Possibility of reaching Platinum

G'day fellow enthusiasts,

I am currently sitting on Gold and on 460 points. I have one more definitely planned trip coming up in Dec and should hit Gold again without issues. Just wondering if it would be possible or too ambitious to aim for Platinum by end of March 2026?

If so, would appreciate some thoughts on routes to maximise the SC's to reach platinum?

P.S: I have been reading quite a bit as I have only recently joined this forum.

Anything is possible if you have the cash to spend. Budget $10-15 per status credit.

It’ll be status credits you want, not points.
It’s your personal choice how badly you want that shiny platinum card and benefits and how much use you’ll get from them.

I've been meaning to write a post on it but in short, I "bought" my way to platinium this year. All up it was about $8k to go from 0 to 1400 SCs.

Tourism. No, unfortunately and very silly of me; missed out early this year. Hoping there will be another in the last quarter of this year

They did a DSC offer October last year, so maybe they may do one this year? If so, that would help you a lot.

Qantas usually run their double status credit promos in February/March each year (for bookings for the next 12 months) with occasional offers outside these periods (there was one in October 2024 for example).

If you can book connecting flights (rather than a direct flight) during a double status credit promo you can sometimes triple or quadruple the amount of status credits earned. But this comes with a time (and likely monetary cost). For example, I sometimes fly DRW-MEL in business (usually 80 status credits) but if I book DRW-BNE-MEL during a promo instead, I pick up (80+60)*2 = 280 status credits for the same journey.

Before committing to it, I would recommend thinking about whether you will obtain enough benefits from Platinum to justify the cost.

• To reach Platinum you usually need to fly business class regularly. If you're mostly flying domestically, you'd already have access to Qantas' Domestic Business Lounges from your class of travel.
• Most regional ports don't have a Domestic Business Lounge, so if you're flying regularly to regional ports you'd get the same lounge access to Qantas Club as you currently have with Gold status.
• For international flights, only major cities tend to have dedicated First Class lounges (SYD/MEL/LAX/LHR/HKG/SIN/HND/KUL etc.) Most non-oneworld hubs have combined Business / First lounges which can be accessed with Gold (oneworld Sapphire) status anyway.
• The ability to request reward seats is useful but I've found is hit and miss. There is a thread on this forum with successful reward seat releases but you need to be flexible with dates or flight times.

The main benefit for lounge access will probably arise if you're planning to fly in economy domestically or from major oneworld hubs internationally between March 2026 and March 2027. However, if you can derive value from the other benefits - such as the ability to request reward seats or extra baggage allowance - it could be worthwhile.

All my flights are international and very little domestic. My sectors are mainly Asia; although next year I will have one or two European trips.

You are absolutely right though; to see if there is really a need for Platinum.... Tbh, after weighing all the options; prob not.

My long term goal is to reach the Lifetime status Gold so working towards that really.
