I'm interested in knowing the policy on requesting the AFL to be changed to one of the TVs in QF lounges. Last month I was in the QF International Business Lounge at Perth T1 and asked if the AFL could be put on any of the TVs in the lounge. At the time there were approx 5 people in the lounge as it is hardly used any more. I was immediately told that they are unable to change the channels so it wasn't possible. 20 minutes or so later, after more people had arrived and had asked about having it on the TV, the channel finally got changed. Is this a policy that is set in place or could they not be bothered initially?

I have no inkling of the official policy, but I'd be surprised if it was.

Not that I have ever asked, but I have seen others ask with only positive replies.

Qantas Club domestic lounge, Brisbane Airport
This AUSBT review suggests that in the QP BNE lounge the foxtel remote is viewer controlled. I do recall a few times seeing the remote out for anyone to use ages ago in that lounge. So either consistently inconsistent policies between lounges or just someone didnt want to do it.

What channel was the TV initially on?

Qantas has some kind of agreement to show Sky News at its lounges worldwide hence they typically tend to be tuned to that, however, I don't believe it restricts them from changing the channel.

It does restrict them in changing the channel, in a contractual way. Unless there is some other 'major' event on. Normal AFL game doesn't constitute that. But by saying that it doesn't stop some staff (although they aren't meant to).

Yeh the majority of TVs were on Sky News, the rest were on another news channel, I can't recall which one.
I'd always seen sport in other lounges that's why I was wondering if it was some sort of new policy.

Probably ABC News

It was introduced in 2014 so not new

Just ask at the front desk, if there are several TVs and the lounge isn't packed out they will change it.

I've ask for one of the TVs to be changed away from football and they did it without fuss. There was a bit of a positive cheer nearby so be prepared not everyone wants football.

I've often noiticed the TV in the (well I guess this is on the way out now :) ) MEL dom J lounge between the newspaper/mag rack and coffee machines almost always showing AFL when I've been in there. Sometimes Sky, but usually footy :)

Go Tiges :D
(never seen it on in SYD!)

I love the News so Skynews has to be on somewhere.......Anybody else in the same situation? I have a handy hint......free of charge download the FOXTEL APP even if your not a subscriber to Foxtel they will let you watch SkyNews for free. Best if you can be on Qantas WIFI network otherwise download charges are too high.

I like the news being on too but also have no problem with som evariety... doesn't have to be the footy but just variety would be nice where there are multiple screens. IMHO

I dunno about giving guests the remote as in BNE.. that seems like things could go awry rather quickly :D

For interest, the VA PER lounge is currently screening Sky News, Channel Seven and Fox Sports (Super Rugby) on numerous screens...

If the footy is not on in the lounge, I watch it on the Foxtel app on my IPad. As a Telstra customer, I can watch it on AFL Live app too.

Footy always seems to be popular in the Melbourne First Lounge.... i.e. turn it on and those red couches get full quickly.

Singapore Lounge loves the footy on the big screen too.

Live sport over news should apply - it's very easy to access news in a lounge.. once live sport is over it's over.

They must have a commercial arrangement requiring "that" news channel to be shown, i have complained previously with no response from QF as I dont agree with the way they present editorial as news (from credlin and the other castoffs from the coalition along with bolt, Murray and the other late night crazies).

The qf lounges are probably the only thing giving them any kind of audience figures, QF need to fix this.
