Just tried to upgrade from flexi with points to Business and was told I am unable as I am connecting on to a Skywest flight! Is there anyway around this other than canceling my booking and booking 2 separate sectors?

Just tried to upgrade from flexi with points to Business and was told I am unable as I am connecting on to a Skywest flight! Is there anyway around this other than canceling my booking and booking 2 separate sectors?

I spent 2 hours on the phone with VA and Velocity a few weeks ago arguing about exactly this. It's enraging..

I was telling them that I understand there is no business class on the SkyWest (was BNE-NTL for me) flights, but I still wanted to upgrade the actual FARE, not the seat, which would then obviously allow me upgrade the whole flight (x2).

Anyway, after spending a very long period of time talking to a Velocity rep, who didn't understand me, I was then able to talk to someone at VA, they understood and said it was possible ... And then came back to me saying it's not possible. Then I got transferred to a "supervisor" (or similar, I forgot) in Australia, who understood me perfectly, and was really unsure why it couldn't be done, but was very apologetic and said it couldn't be done for some reason. FYI, their system shows 0Q.

It wouldn't take long for VA to fix, but I just wish it'd happen sooner.

What say you, Virgin rep?

This is exactly my issue too Darwin - Brisbane is operated by VA but because im connecting onto a Skywest ATR I can't upgrade. It just doesn't make sense as I am able to book business class on the VA website just not via points upgrade!!!!

I'm thinking of switching some of my flying from QF to VA and am wondering how points upgrades are confirmed - is it like the majority of QF flights where you only find out in the hours before whether the upgrade is successful, or do VA provide instant confirmation (like SQ do)? Is it also like QF where with two people flying the points for the upgrade all come out of the account of the person who made the booking? Many thanks.

Interesting, two weeks ago I upgraded a CBR - MEL flight, it was operated via SYD with the second sector on an ATR (skywest op) There was no issue. It was treated by the look of my account as a single sector MEL - CBR, but in saying that, therein may lie the difference, it was shown as a CBR - MEL direct. Would be interesting to know if this made a dif to my case? I will chase this up today when I'm in MEL lounge and come back to you!!!

It's instant confirmation. If there's availability, and you choose to upgrade (you have to contact the call centre to do it) then it's confirmed, and you get a new itinerary. I have 3x return "Velocity Business" trips booked in the next couple of months, confirmed.

Apologies I can't help you with your other question.

Qantas domestic upgrades are either confirmed immediately or you can register for an upgrade ("waitlist") if immediate confirmation does not happen.

Had the same issue MEL-KGI 2 months back. Ended up cancellining and re-booking Virgin MEL-PER then PER-KGI on QF so i could use the QC.
Learnt my lesson after that one. Also its a waste of money IMHO buying a flexi when there is a skywest flight involved as you get their baggage allowances included anyway.

Have discovered a work around! Book flight without Skywest connection... upgrade then call back the normal reservations and ask to change to desired flight I.e Skywest connection ha!
