Points Upgrade

Hi AFF experts , just checking to understand what are my chances of upgrade with krisflyer miles for confirmed flights around Dec 2022. What will be the best approach to increase my chances of successful upgrade. I don't want to pay in cash as I have a stash around 260K points in Amex rewards and want to make best use by directing them to Krisflyer. Thanks

Upgrades using KF points is extremely low value: the required points are almost the same as getting the premium seat outright.

In other words, $$ for a Y seat + required points for upgrade is almost the same as minimal $ for taxes and fees + required points for J seat.

But to answer your question: I don't think there is much you can do to improve your chances (short of being/becoming a PPS).

If you have the points why not just book an award ticket in J - if there's no availability you can waitlist which probably has a better chance of success than trying for a points upgrade. Of course if the WL doesn't come through you will need to buy a ticket which could be very expensive close to departure in Dec peak travel season.

Also not sure of your departure city - but also check other Australian cities where SQ fly to - some have better availability than others. Of course you would then have the cost and inconvenience of a positioning flight.
