And if you have a subscription to ExpertFlyer (or know somebody who does), that will be 100% of the time - immediately. Obviously some degree of flexibility is required.
Thanks, as I said, my experience has been good so I can only speak highly from my experience. Have not tried for O/S and I guess that would be a lot harder

O/S is a whole different thing.

DOM can be upgraded from every fare bucket; INT can't. Also INT upgrades are on request; DOM can be either instant or on request.

My previous post related specifically to DOM. Check EF for U bucket availability before choosing your Red-E deal; wait a little while for it to ticket, and you're sweet to jump on and UPG immediately.

EF is still useful for INT - but the fare bucket and on-request limitations needs to be well-understood. Also, INT UPGs are highly status dependent as a general rule.

Thanks, I'm Gold, used to be Platinum but can't see the point. I reckon Gold is a sweet ( cost effective ) spot.

I get that, but - back in the day  - getting a J (or D in my case, as I usually buy a DONEx each year) UPG to F on QF from, say SYD-LHR (especially) or SYD-DFW, could be a bit tough for status <WP.

That said, I've done QF F to death and other OWA partners' Fs (and even Js - looking at you, QR QSuites ) are (were...😟) sooo much better.

And no access to the FLounge would hurt - big time. 😟

I'm LTG 3+X over but my biggest fear in life is having to invoke it after c. 20 years straight as WP .

How close are you to LT Platinum?

I wonder this time next year with a year of accumulated points and no redemption travel for International, there will be an even bigger shortage of premium seats than there is now....

We still have family members for those ATO payments. They are confident that they can use those points and miles.

I must have too.many points; in the last month I paid $10k+ to the ATO via Bpay ... I could not justify the surcharge (even being tax deductible).
I must have come to the same conclusion. I was not paying the ATO, after all my travel refunds came back and a new car was needed for MrsM the plan was simple, pay for it using the AMEX credit. After being told by the dealer 'we accept AMEX' and as I was willing to accept the surcharge the car was ordered. 2 days before before changeover I checked with the dealer and was informed by the dealer "we do not accept AMEX' for settlement only VISA and MC which had the same surcharge. Easy solution was pay cash for the car and ask AMEX to send the funds in credit back to our bank account. I could not be bothered with the hassle of transfering funds to either our VISA or MC then paying a surcharge and being hit by the monthly QF earn point cap.
