Hi all,

I have read through the reams of terms and conditions but am still miffed if it costs me extra points to do a stopover in Hong Kong or Singapore for a day on my way to London?

Anyone?

Thanks

Under the new rules stopovers are treated differently than before.

Now, if you chose to stopover, then your flight from Australia and your flight from HKG to LHR will be treated as two separate flights - so add the two points amounts together.
Total Points = (points for Aus-HKG) + ( points for HKG-LHR)

If you transit (ie. spend less than 24 hours in HKG) then it is not broken and one flight's points calculation applies.
Total Points = points for combined miles for (Aus-HKG-LHR)

Hope that makes sense.

This time last year, it would have cost an extra 10,000 points pp for each stopover on the old awards scheme.

So in this example, if you want to have a >24hr stopover in HKG, assuming you depart from SYD/MEL/BNE it would cost 30,000 pts + 42,000 pts = 72,000 pts. This would be 136,000 pts for return (if you're not planning a stopover on the way back. IMHO, you'd almost be better to do a one world itinerary, which allows five stopovers and 35,000 miles for only 142,500 pts.

Except on itineraries involving BA or AA, or involving a transfer from QF to BA or AA, where you used to get a single stopover for free, in addition to the end destination.
