Just wanted to ask if anyone know much about the Points Club program and how status work. Currently my Points Club says that I have until end of 2021 to enjoy the benefit. If I move up to Points Plus status will I still be able to enjoy it to 2021 or is there another way I can stretch out my Points Plus benefit to the end of 2022?

I believe it's the same as normal QF status in that when you hit a threshold, you get the benefits for the remainder of your current year, as well as the next.
So if you wait until your next membership year, and then meet the requirements for points plus, you'll get it for that year as well as the one after. Which might be better given there's not much chance of flying in 2020! Can you earn 350k points next year instead of an extra 200k this year?

It says I get to enjoy my Points Club benefit till December 2021. So I was hoping to earn enough points at the start of next year to move up to Point Plus and be able to enjoy lounge benefit till 2022. However when I spoke to the agent at Qantas she kept saying that if I earned Points Plus before June next year I will only be entitled to the Point Plus benefit till December 2021 instead of December 2022. I'm so confuse.

The big issue is that the new Points Club program was only released this year – and about the time that people stopped flying – so there isn't a lot of evidence either way. Could be a case of HUACA.

That said, as above I would expect that if you earned Points Club Plus at the start of your new membership year then you'd receive it for the remainder of that year and the next year as well. Trouble for you is that wont be until January 2022. As your membership runs over 12 months at this stage, my gut feeling would be that earning Points Club Plus (by going over the 350k threshold) at any time from now until January 2021 would see an expiry of December 2021, but going over the threshold in 2021 might give you an extra year.

So if I understand you correctly it's best to go over the 350k threshold after January 2021? Would my membership year be the same as my Elite status?

Based on my experience, yes it is the same as elite status.

If you want almost 2 years of points club plus you will need to earn 350,000 in your first month of your status year. Point club points are reset to zero along with your status credits at the beginning of your status year.

So when it says I can enjoy the benefit up to December 31st 2021 then if I go up to Points Plus tier in January 2021 then I will have that benefit till 31st December 2022?

Yep, but you will start with a zero balance on 1 January 2021 so that’s a lot in one month.

Make sure any points transferred from credit cards are broken down in 125,000 point batches (Qantas points that is, so 250,000 amex points for example) as any transaction over 125,000 points will only count for 125,000.

I get the part about the max 125k per transaction but why would I start with a 0 balance when I've already got 150k therefore I only need 200k to move up to Points Plus right? That's the part that's still confusing. I suppose I still have Qatar Platinum to fall back on till May 2021 but beyond that I would like access to the Qantas lounge for as long as possible.

Your points counter acts the same as your status credit counter. When you reach your anniversary date, the counter resets to 0.

If your Membership Year ends on December 31, then on January 1 your counter will be 0.

Ohhh ok. So even though it says I can enjoy the benefit till December 2021 my points counter resets at the start of next year. Ok so that makes sense now. AFF is so much better to get answers to question than ringing up Qantas team to ask for clarification.

I think we can all agree with that statement.

So just to check one last time. If I were to earn Points Plus status before 31st December 2020. Would I be able to keep it to December 2022 or it will only be till December 2021?

So, if your membership year end in December.

If you earn Points Plus this year, you will have it from when you earn it, until the end of December 2021.

You will then have all of 2021 to earn it for 2022.
