Plenty work for pilots in asia/pacific

The issue for me is the erosion of the industry due to the public wanting and expecting $1 fares.

Starting airline wage for those airlines recruiting today in Australia and NZ is below the Australian median wage (which from google is about $73k depending on which source you believe). Therefore, uni grads are going to the likes of IT where the salary is 1.5 times higher or more to start.

I cannot see how the Asia Pacific will be able to produce enough pilots and compete with other industries if the wages are not significantly increased. Unfortunately, i can't see that happening.

They probably won't be getting recruits from countries where the median wage is so high I guess if that's all they are going to be paying...

Just have to hope that those countries training and education standards are relatively high...

While an airline job might sound wonderful, if the pay and conditions are not there, then a young commercial pilot may find he/she can have a better life flying a seaplane with Whitsundays' tourists. And the flying migth be more fun too.

But all that being said, I wouldn't mind spending a few years as an airline FO.
