The hug was an enormously successful and well used emoticon in the previous software
The AFF community is quite close and caring and the icon was extensively used as an expression of warm
inclusive sympathy among friends.
Please reconsider.. and bring back the Hug...

As @support has said, 'like' the first post to record an opinion. Lots of posts in the thread, but at the moment only 6 'likes'.

Oh, I 'liked' the OP which as a mod must be worth a million 'likes' or so! ;)

Vote early and vote often, I say.

Previously I would have marked this as winner but now - I'd rather a hug than be a winner

I agree with bring back the hug. As I just said on the chit chat thread - a big grinning mouth, even with hearts attached, does not denote sympathy. I have given dozens of hugs and received them and they are very much appreciated whereas a grinning mouth would be quite off putting.

There is some movement on this for those following along. However, we are currently looking at a number of issues, including:
  • What icon to use.
  • The appropriate number of reactions before things get out of hand.
  • If we re-introduce ‘hugs’ do we then remove ‘love’ or can they co-exist?
It’s worth remembering that vBulletin only offered likes. When we moved to Xenforo we started with 3 Ratings, which was eventually expanded to 6. Xenforo 2.1 had 6 Reactions by default and we’ve already added 2 bringing us to 8.

My two cents. I don’t think we need a ‘love’ icon on the forums. A ‘like’ is sufficient. Others may be more in favour of online love ins.

we really don’t need the love one :). Thank-you for all your hard work and taking our concerns on board.

A feature of AFF before the upgrade last weekend.

Upgrade or enhancement? o_O

I note that the request for a 'thanks' button wasn't successful.

Upgrade or enhancement? o_O
Out of the box, Xenforo came with a like system in 1.5 and 2.0, but in 2.1 that system was upgraded to a new feature called reactions.

The previous post ratings feature was an addon that is no longer available for Xenforo 2.0 and onwards – simply put, the developer has not ported it to the new software.

Regarding your suggestion, it certainly seems currently we are focusing on getting back to where we were previously, and may continue to consider things after that.

Reactions: Hvr
Along with bringing the "hug" back, we have had to make some hard decisions on what had to make space for the new reactions. While "love" is not the same as "hug", we find it somewhat similar to "like" so have chosen to deactivate it. We have also deactivated "angry".

You may not see the "hugs" icon immediately, as it will need to be cleared from your browser cache. You can either do this yourself or wait for it to work its way through naturally.

Thank you for the suggestion and for participating in the process.
