Re: Platinum reserve flight changed to travel credit and pooling of multiple travel c

I recently just received the Reserve card and it included a booklet about the changes to the complimentary flight/hotel.Hopefully useful to everyone as information is scarce about this card.

"From 30 March 2017 until 30 September 2017, you will be able to redeem either the complimentary flight or a hotel stay or the Travel Credit. After 30 September 2017, only the travel credit will be available each year of your Card Membership."

The travel credit is stated as $400.

Re: Platinum reserve flight changed to travel credit and pooling of multiple travel c

The lady on the phone told me as the Edge/Reserve cut over is not until end of March there will be more clearer information coming out as how combining travel credit via PTS will work.

So I logged into my Amex account the other day to look at some online travel options and two boxes came up and asked me what credit I wanted to use. Either the $400 for my Plat Reserve CC, or my Plat Charge $300, must have been a test as I logged on today and no screen with options just my Plat $300 credit showing?? I hope they can do the pooling and keep the same use by date, in my case 31 July 2017 as I could possibly have two credits overlap when the new ones are due early July 2017??

Re: Platinum reserve flight changed to travel credit and pooling of multiple travel c

What are/were the conditions of the free flight with the Reserve card? Ie, where could you fly to (specifically if Perth based)?

Re: Platinum reserve flight changed to travel credit and pooling of multiple travel c

I have my doubts about pooling of these credits, I have Plat charge so $300 credit p/a plus the Reserve at $400 in April if I don't use the flight.

When I was looking at a dummy travel booking I read somewhere about one travel credit only per booking, which indicated to me no pooling??? eg using $700 in my case towards say flights for example.

What about doing the booking over the phone? I understand they no longer charge you an "over the phone" booking fee if it includes a travel credit but I must admit I have no direct experience with this, it would be great if somebody that has done it in the past could confirm...

Re: Platinum reserve flight changed to travel credit and pooling of multiple travel c

Have not really used the phone service for booking so can't say but hopefully your correct in your assumption.

Re: Platinum reserve flight changed to travel credit and pooling of multiple travel c

I recently used my Explorer credit over the phone. The agent had me make the reservation myself online while we were speaking and she was watching the process on her side. As soon as the booking had been made and paid for she immediately re-funded the total cost of the booking and re-charged me a new total minus the $400 travel credit. All three transactions hung in the 'pending' section of my online account for about a day or so. Was very easy to do, but a pain I had to call to have it done. Being in Perth and with daylight savings on the east coast, trying to find time during the work day can be a real issue to get a hold of someone in the call centre. Apart from that small difficulty though the whole process was a piece of cake. The operator did mention that they were working on having a system change to enable your different credits to be used online, but it's still a little way off at this point in time.

Re: Platinum reserve flight changed to travel credit and pooling of multiple travel c

Has anyone been able to use the $400 credit online yet? When I try to make a booking the option to use the credit isn't shown.

Re: Platinum reserve flight changed to travel credit and pooling of multiple travel c

I called Amex on Tuesday. They said that the flight redemption has been extended to April 28. I have a trip coming up which I will use it for once I confirm my travel dates.

Oy vey... that would have been nice to know a wee earlier. I was lamenting last week how I just missed out and resigned to finding another use of the now-converted-to travel credit later in the year.

That said, asking for flights next week might be a big ask.

I had to nag them relentlessly, but it showed up after another phone call this morning (with an expiry a year from today).

Just called Amex then, with my Platinum Reserve account. Things didn't seem to bode well when the automated menu options only mentioned travel credit, but when I got to the operator and she checked my account, she told me that my free flights have been voided and $400 travel credit has been credited to my account in place.

I asked her about whether there could be an extension of the grace period on redeeming a free flight instead, but she said that as much as she would like to, this is impossible.

So I'm not sure what to make of this conflicting report. Either way, looks like I'm not using a free flight.

Re: Platinum reserve flight changed to travel credit and pooling of multiple travel c

I just called the Platinum charge line and got transferred to the reserve free flight line. They confirmed that expiry of flight benefit has been extended to 28 April.
I will be booking my flights on Monday so will report back then. That's when I'll be 100% sure the info I've been given is spot on.
I'm flying SYD-ADL which is pricing up <$400 on Virgin site so I don't think I'm getting excess value.
Last year used my free flights over Easter weekend to MEL and would've got >$400 value over the holiday period - swings and roundabouts.

You don't get status credits with the free flight but you would if you booked flights using the travel credit. Might be worth considering......

Re: Platinum reserve flight changed to travel credit and pooling of multiple travel c

Good point. Generally don't fly enough domestically to accrue sufficient SCs. Most of my flying is on International J redemptions so I have no status.
Might have to become more status minded should the credit cards rewards game come to an end :(

If you got your Reserve for free with a Platinum Charge maybe your date is different to my Reserve which is otherwise a standard cobrand card.

Geez - we should trade... you try and book my flights next week (if possible) and I use my $400 for your flights... (wishful thinking here)

Some did get SC's and Velocity points with the free flight when travelling internationally ;)

Re: Platinum reserve flight changed to travel credit and pooling of multiple travel c

I got SC for a SYD/AKL return on the reserve free flight, however it was credited to SQ instead of VA.

I also managed to redeem a free edge flight late last week. You just need to go to accounts team and they will transfer you to the flight redemption team.
