Hi all

As I posted on facebook I had a bit of a realisation yesterday that I might actually hit P1  until I found I was actually 200 QF SCs short :(

As it stands I have 2,380 SCs currently of which 1260 are on QF. My forecast travel is below:

Note for the dom legs syd-mel means syd-mel-syd. Int'l just the whole trip is shown

Code:
Journey	Date	Carrier	SCs Total	QF	Other	DBL Promo
Opening 2380	1260	1120
SYD-MEL	21-Jun	QF	80 2460	1340	1120	Y
SYD-BNE	25-Jun	QF	80 2540	1420	1120	Y
SYD-LHR	28-Jun	QF	480 3020	1900	1120	Y
LHR-SYD	6-Jul	QF	240 3260	2140	1120	N
SYD-MEL	18-Jul	QF	40 3300	2180	1120	N
SYD-MEL	2-Aug	QF	40 3340	2220	1120	N
SYD-MEL	16-Aug	QF	40 3380	2260	1120	N
SYD-MEL	23-Aug	QF	40 3420	2300	1120	N
SYD-MEL	6-Sep	QF	40 3460	2340	1120	N
SYD-MEL	19-Sep	QF	40 3500	2380	1120	N
SYD-HKG	30-Sep	QF	120 3620	2500	1120	N

That will leave me (with a 30 Sep year end) 200 SCs short of P1.

I am wondering if in the midst of that there is a reasonable way to get the 200 extra required. I am not points rich at the moment.

The rationale for chasing P1 is [-]two[/-] three fold:

- I need three J seats OZ-UK next year and being P1 would avoid the need to book at T-355 given the potential to release revenue seats for awards on the days(ish) I want. It would also save points as I would not have to have a partner award which looked around 60K more expensive.

- I do a lot of DOM travel (not as much as some here) and being able to snag the front row of whY would be a boon - currently on 37 DOM segments year to date

- Also doing DOM travel in whY I would be hoping for more OpUps - although this I realise is not that likely.

If only the DBL SC promo had kicked in until July this would be a moot point :(

I am not interested in the other stuff as given I do most of my flights SYD-domestic-SYD irregular Ops are a low concern. Special events would be nice but as I don't expect this to be a recurrent thing (if you took out the DBL SCs I would be well off) then I am not really factoring them in.

I just had a quick look at a JASA SYD-MEL-BNE-SYD (online it was a overnight thing but I guess I could do it in a day and book separate awards) and that was 56K points and $256 but of course only nets 120SCs. Something like SYD-MEL-ASP-BNE-SYD would get 220 - but I haven't looked at the cost of that. I would be happy spending say 60K points and $200 but as you can see from the above travel overnights away would be less than popular at home.

If you'd find yourself in CBR, 200 SC can be JASAed via SYD to HBA each way for 32K QFF points and $250.

Best I could find on a random day was 80K points + $357 for that route.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Pity you couldn't pull the LHR trip forward by 1 week:evil:

How are you getting back from BNE to catch the SYD-LHR flight on the 28th? You could do BNE-MEL-SYD for 100 doubled to 200.

Edit - just noticed your note regarding the DOM legs.

Woah amaroo that is interesting... Currently I am flying a straight BNE-SYD flight.

Holy carp - that is 40K + $167.74!

It still leaves me 40SCs short but I can probably slot in another trip... Maybe even a trip to MEL the morning before I fly to LHR...

Try routing your SYD-LHR a little more creatively ;). Should be able to do for about the same cost and find most of the extra SC's required since it fits into your double SC promotion period.

Re: This Sunday:

OK - booked for the correct day now (I even paid the carbon offset ;)) - now to call and cancel the other booking...

And now cancelled :D

Thanks all for the suggestions - being a bit time poor it would have been hard to justify a separate trip. This seems to make things work.

I just now need to find 40 SCs above the current plan - tempted to do a SYD-xx_-SYD before my flight to LHR... I have the morning free...

Hi Simon, just quick question on your table where it says

SYD LHR 28 JUN QF 480
LHR SYD 06 JUL QF 240

is that 480 for a return SYD LHR and then another single from LHR to SYD?

Along the same lines as suggested by NM if you break the journey in SIN you can earn an additional 80 SC or 120 SC with the one way (due to dates) DSC offer.

SYD-LHR-SYD = 480 SC
SYD-SIN-LHR-SIN-SYD = 560 SC

Options to go or come back via MEL or BNE (ruled out the others due to sloped beds) or a nice stopover in SIN to refresh & pick up something nice for the family:cool:

Unfortunately the SYD-LHR-SYD is unmovable - I tried to change to a Friday night flight and the price increase was $2000...

At this stage I think I am now good with the BNE-MEL-SYD booked (on the right day). Might think about a MEL-BNE-SYD variation to just sneak the extras...

I can't believe after laughing at the insane qualification requirements at the AFF/QFF lunch that I might now actually make it...

Why not fly somewhere within Europe for the extra 40sc? Or does it have to be on QF metal?

200 SC needed to hit the 2700 mark for QF metal/ticket - without doing another flight the OP will achieve the 3600 but not the sub-critical 2700.

OK - slight update with further travel plans confirmed/

Slight change in format - the flights are the exact flights now rather than for DOM where it was assumed it was a straight return.

Code:
Journey / route	Date	Carrier	SCs Total	QF	Other	DBL Promo
Opening St 2380	1260	1120

MEL-SYD oneway	25-Jun	QF	80 2700	1580	1120	Y

SYD-MEL-SYD	2-Aug	QF	40 3530	2410	1120	N
SYD-MEL-SYD	16-Aug	QF	40 3570	2450	1120	N
SYD-MEL-SYD	23-Aug	QF	40 3610	2490	1120	N
SYD-MEL-SYD	6-Sep	QF	40 3650	2530	1120	N
SYD-MEL-SYD	19-Sep	QF	40 3690	2570	1120	N
SYD-BKK oneway	30-Sep	QF	120 3810	2690	1120	N

This now leaves me 10 SCs short which I am likely to get via a JASA MEL-SYD to replace a flexi saver MEL-SYD. Have I coughed anything up in the calcs?

Slight hitch already MEL-SYD flight today just cancelled... Rebooked 15 mins earlier... Let's hope image the connection...
