Platinum Charge Companion Card change

My Edge is free companion to my Gold Charge card. Always thought Reserve was for Platinum. Good idea if you can make Edge your free companion with Edge effectively defunct.
From memory, it's a lot easier said than done with Amex allowing it.

Just got the my reserve card - thank you for the heads up and i can see the credit is available :

What's the main difference between the edge and reserve?

I have both - Reserve would be better in most cases. Travel credit $400 vs $200. In general, 2 MR points (vs 1 in the case of Edge) for every dollar spend (except for 3 MR points/$ on Supermarket transactions on Edge). However, why would one use any other AMEX card when Charge gives 2.25 MR points per dollar. Pls note MR point earn rate on government charges is always 1 point per $.

Yeah, i'm happy to use my charge for everything.. i guess it makes it easier and less cards to carry around.

Not sure if it related to this change, but Mrs Mac had the 'double travel credit' bug hit her Reserve and Explorer cards in January, but it has gone back to single (correct) travel credit amounts without cycling through. Has anyone else seen this?

The wording on the benefits page is interesting: Platinum Reserve Credit Card Benefits | AMEX Australia
The $400 Travel Credit is not available to American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card Members who applied and are approved for the Card on or after 26 August 2020 and who hold the Card in conjunction with an American Express Platinum or Centurion Charge Card. All other American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card Members are eligible for one Travel Credit of $400 per year.
Seems like only affecting new card holders at the moment (and only those who hold a Plat / Cent card also?). Will wait and see, but as others have said hard to justify the Plat AF with $400 less value each year.

Looks like the credit has been stripped away for charge card holders. I guess I’m not surprised but that’s a significant benefit gone and like a $400 AF increase on the charge card.

I guess it may happen eventually but not for current companion card holders

Sad, it would be interesting to see when it will be applied to current card holders, perhaps we can all "flee" to the Amex Platinum Edge card to get some travel credit rather than none with Platinum reserve (once it applies to current card holders)?

Yes - hopefully can keep an Edge or even Explorer (if it's just an attempt to phase out Reserve for some reason?)

The credit remains for those who hold the Platinum Reserve on its own and also currently those who've held it from before 23/08.

I canceled my Reserve credit card in May and reapplied in Nov and still get another $400 credit. Is it still a thing? I thought it was canceled.

Anyone managed to get Edge instead of reserve?

Tried via online chat and said can't be done

Anyone still got the travel credit from reserve card after applying in the past 1-2 months post the announcement of the travel credit removal?
