The most laughable thing is the "greater access to classic awards"...Just last week I tried to request a First Class seat to BKK the day prior - it was denied. They had 11 seats available out of 14. The "business analyst said no"...I guess QF sell 11 First seats on day of departure :)
That's very disapponting QF!!

Nope - I am P1 and didn't get anything...and don't be too worried amaroo you're really not missing out on much at all.

From a marketing point of view it's the worst thing QF have done - in the very fancy metallic box which is rather useless we got a coughpy looking quicky thought out WP card and basically a little booklet full of BS promising the world "exclusive invitiation only blah blah - including a sim ride blah blah"...it's pretty ridiculous. I thought the deal was supposed to be "if there's an available seat, it's yours on a Classic Award". It's disappointing that they're not doing this.

Nope, that's clearly not the case. I was recently looking at a J redemption to HKG and was told that as there were already 7 points redemptions in J, they would not give any more. They told me that there is no g'tee of seat redemption - it's always subject to yield management - as a WP1, you simply have 1 further avenue of appeal to a rejection...

As it was, a collaegue of mine told me that there were a number of empty seats on the flight, so yield management were clearly off their game.

No major issue - switched to CX which has a better J product anyway.

It is not secret QF are probably the worst airline there is in terms of redeeming premium seats especially to LAX and LHR. I can see their point of view as obviously these flights can have an high demand for commercial seats, but what is really disappointing is the fact these seats go unsold - even when trying to get them the day before. Totally different story on British Airways which under UK law has to release a certain number of seats for redemption - also you will find with BA that a T-48 you will most definitely find "Z" First and "U" Business inventory if the flight is not heaving booked - my success rate on BA is close to 100% in getting Z and U seats.

My example of BKK is not an isolated instance - also had a LAX-MEL trying to request a classic award in First - it was approx 27 hours prior to departure - 13 out 14 seats available. Once again the reply was "due to commercial requirements unable to clear" - I was not a P1 at the time - just Plat.

What's important to point out also is that QF has not only p'eed off the P1s but at the same time its WP who are now treated as second class and have had a lot of benefits diluted or taken away. The worst thing you can do is underestimate people's intelligence and take them for a ride.

Totally agree....its Monday so maybe Red Roo can shed some light on this and clarify.....might switch over to marco polo for OW (got matched to gold) and now with *Alliance matching too....

There was a whole thread dedicated to QF's lack of availability redeeming premium seats - RedRoo never once replied so don't expect any reply on here as he really wouldn't have an answer. You might get some "spin" answer which QF are masters of.

kirk7 are CX still doing status match? Wasn't aware of this.

I'm trying out their new Business SYD-HKG for the first time this Saturday it looks pretty impressive from the pictures and positive trip reports.

It is the best business class seat I have used. Partly because of the ability to route videos from my iPad through to the IFE display.

I think the CX seat is the same as the new US Airways Envoy Class...the seat manfucaturer lists it as a First Class product.

I'm really looking forward to trying it.

Ithink the only difference between the CX J seat and an F seat is the size of the tray table - it is a little small by comparison say to old QF F.

CX doesnt have an official program....you need to email and ask them to match...

then they will ask for your flying records with QF over the past 12 months...then they will determine if they give you silver gold diamond.....usually its silver if not much CX activity

(note- though Silver = Ruby, it still entites the bearing access to CX lounge when flying CX.....they even OP-UP Green members from what i have seen.

Hi GoldenWinger,

Sorry to hear that you were denied a Classic Award in First. I can understand why it would be frustrating. We are aware that some Platinum One's have been denied Classic Award requests and there are valid reasons why this would happen such as leaving some seats available for commercial use or Flight Upgrade Award requests in the queue which still to be processed. But 13 out of 14 empty is a lot and why we are investigating why requests such as your are denied. So while I can not give you a full explanation, I just wanted to let you all know that we are aware of the issue and working to fix it.

Cheers,
Red Roo

Thanks Red Roo - I appreciate the reply. But to be honest I have no faith in the system at all. I now have platinum with Virgin and as others have suggested will try and get status matched with CX MPC Diamond...QF has pretty much lost me as client. The final straw has been the P1 offering which considering the amount of flying that needs to be done is quite frankly just not worth it. It was all empty promises. So I feel very cheated. I apologise if that sounds petty but it's just the way I feel overall with QF.

If you fly 120,000 miles a year, consistently, then it’s probably not a bad choice, especially if a lot of it is on CX too.

QF for international flights is largely irrelavant for the most part given their network is so small - obviously on the SYD-LAX product wise in First and Business they are great but apart from that I can really fly any oneworld partner airline to anywhere else with more frequency and choice.

P1 since opening, no invitations to anything. Have requalified again til 2014. Thinking of switching to see if I can get EK IO, benefits sound more up my alley.

After today's news the whole thing is even more of a joke...and Lesley Grant as head of Loyatly? That is really, really scary. She is a very much loathed woman from her days at Air NZ and then as head of cabin crew at QF. We can expect a program that already was difficult to become impossible.

If you're flying 120k a year, and in the USA a bit, i'd lean towards AA EXP over CX MPC Diamond....
