Current offer also include 0% interest on purchases for 6 months from date of first spend on the card. Does this mean that the $99 fee owing is not included in this interest free offer?

I don't know as I don't use my cards this way, always pay them off monthly. I'd imagine the 0% would be for purchases only and not charges and whatnot, but the only way to know for sure is probably to ring them.

That's correct. The $99 fee is not included in the interest free offer, therefore you need to pay the $99 by the due date of the first statement to avoid normal interest rates on it.

Will interest accrue from day 1 of the $99 annual fee charge? I know that there is no interest free period on annual fee for the Woolworths Everyday Rewards Credit Card.

Well ... yes, if you don't pay it off in the normal statement cycle.

This card and the EDR card are 55d interest free though provided you pay them off fully in each statement cycle. Certainly must get confusing to try and track the interest free bit and the chargeable bit on these types of deals ... I couldn't be bothered.

Sorry I guess I wasn't clear earlier. What I mean was that the annual fee on the EDRCC accrues interest from date of charge. Say the fee appears on the statement from 1st Dec, and the statement cycle is up to 15th Dec, and payment deadline is 30th Dec. The statement that I received from Woolworths had interest applied from 1st Dec to 15th Dec for unpaid annual fee. This is despite the deadline for minimum repayment being on the 30th Dec.

It was a small amount so I didn't really follow up with them but I thought that this was unusual compared to the banks.

Hmm, no, that doesn't sound right at all, unless you didn't pay the previous account in full in which case there are no interest free days.

Goodness knows how the bank deal with an 'interest free period' when this happens, but probably in much the same way as you describe I'd imagine, bank charges accruing interest from day one.

mine is $99 through professional etc etc

But my sister had her renewal fee waived for the next card up.
Have just got my first statement, I applied through the normal Amex link and it is $99. Happy with that particularly as I have managed to get some large bonuses in just my first month of using my card, $3300 of expenditure ($99 being the card fee, the rest I had to pay anyway) and 76K worth of points accrued already plus a free flight.

I sent a referral to my room mate re this card, he was also only charged $99 annual fee instead of $149, he questioned it and the phone guy didn't know what the deal was but said everything was in order and not to worry about it

How did you get 76k worth of points with 3.3k spend?? how many people did you refer :D

Does anyone know if the free flight we get on our cards is upgradeable via points or points + pay? I'm wanting to book a business class ticket but was hoping to use this opportunity if i could.

I was told on the phone by the Amex rep that you could book the ticket via Amex, which is how the free flight must be booked, and then use the PNR to upgrade the Y ticket on Virgins website. Several posts here though seem to contradict that position so perhaps an email to Amex would be better as people will tell you whatever you want to hear over the phone.

25K signup bonus
20K referral bonus (1 person - there's a trick here but not going to post it, you can PM me but it's fairly obvious on reflection)
~ $2450 on home/contents/car insurance with AAMI = ~27000 points
~ $650 at BP = ~4500 points

Not that hard really!

When I booked my free flight a couple of months ago, I could look up the flight on the Virgin website as they provided the reservation number (PNR) via e-mail. However, I could not change anything, including adding my velocity number - it came up with either an error message saying that changes cannot be made, or a message saying that I had to contact Amex for any changes. It clearly showed that Amex had booked it. From that, I assume that it is not possible to upgrade the flight to business on the Virgin website.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I applied for this card last week and was surprised to get a letter today that I'd been rejected.
I have no issues with my record, earn +$50k and shown myself capable of holding CCs before (although admittedly my only AMEX is an ANZ FF branded one).

Any ideas on what's doing? This seems like one of the best FF cards out there so am pretty keen to get hold. I'll prob wait another 3-6 months before applying (repeated applications are an obvious red flag)... thoughts on whether I should wait longer, or what I should be doing?

cheers

Yeah, freaky eh? Same happened to me last year. No problems with credit, capacity is fine, but Amex cards were a no go for me. Instead I had to settle for a bank co-branded Amex which I used to the max for the next 9 months.

Suddenly, near Christmas Amex send me an invitation.

To be fair, I did apply for a lot of cards during last years points season, had really good luck and reaped great rewards - this constant hitting of my credit file probably affected Amex's decisions. I'd wait a minimum of 6 months.
