Piano on plane?

I am travelling MEL-HKG-Newark and want to take my little Launchkey keyboard on board to record some music on my laptop (with NC headphones on obviously). My family is insisting that it will be confiscated. Surely it would be OK? Here's a picture: Novation Launchkey Mini Mk2 USB/MIDI keyboard + Ableton - Big Music Australia

If the dimensions are within cabin bag sizing (refer to each individual airline's website for guidance, but should be 45 inches total dimensions) - it should be fine. No reason for it to be confiscated.

1989 airline pilots strike.

Flight from BNE to SYD. Plane is a Continental DC10 that has come down from Guam. Stepping on board there is a bloody great big white grand piano in the "lobby". I kid you not. They did exist.

That bloody plane rattled all the way down the runway like no other plane I have ever been on before has rattled. Never so glad to get off the bloody thing.

And no, no-one played that bloody piano.

Absolutely true story.
