I doubt they'll want ID to drop luggage if you've already got a boarding pass.

Can't remember ever being asked for photo ID, even Gore, Mackay, Moree, or Wagga. Just used my FF card.

Always asked for ID when ;

1. Flying domestic out of SYD/MEL/BNE/CBR/LST/HBA/ADL
2. Flying JQ domestic leg on an international flight - at the seperate "domestic queue" at passport control

I’ve never had to present ID (just FF card) when flying out of CBR & MEL

...They'd laugh at us accepting a frequent flyer card.

Haha, the joke is on TSA with their abysmal performance. TSA is not there to check IDs, it is there to stop terrorism, and they last time they were actually tested, they got something like 98% detection failure rate; just to reiterate, that is merely a 2% success rate.

Bring it on. At the very least it will stop the fraud that happens very often with people travelling on other frequent flyer cards.

Traveling with false ID is a federal offence and there are already provisions in law for that. We don't need our airlines/airports becoming law-enforcement agencies; it is a very slippery slope (just see what is happening elsewhere).

Checking IDs is a big part of stopping terrorism. Not the complete defence, but it’s a significant part.

Nope, not really. Card printers are dirt cheap these days.

Besides, there are more dictatorships checking IDs than democratic governments. I do not want to concede any more of my liberty than I absolutely have to. After all, this is what living in a democratic/free society is all about, isn't it?

I don't think you understand how modern IDs work... the TSA scan them. All the information is available on a database. Ours is too here in Australia - hence why if you get pulled over by the cops without ID they can look it up on their system.

I think you are mixing having IDs checked by airport staff with that by law enforcement agencies. Have you ever seen airport staff scanning IDs and checking that against a central database? Or, do I not understand it...??? :)

And, can you tell me how many terrorist plots TSA has actually foiled? Spoiler; the answer is a big fat zero!

can't believe you're all bent out of shape over this, if it even happens. Those people are paying your wage when they buy an airfare. Up to the airline to deal with, not the staff to get all upset.

Didn't have my licence on me the other day and was told my Medicare card would suffice to check in me and family so long as we were all on the same card

Lol 'bent out of shape', umm no, not at all.
These people who are entering the lounge on someone else card are entering fraudulently, that's all there is to it. People talk about entitlements and not getting what they are entitled to, yet if people need to show if they are entitled to a product, then they get all defensive.

It's still an issue for Qantas to worry about, that doesn't take anything away from the staff members. It's interesting to talk about being entitled, is there a sense of entitlement on behalf of staff who call this fraud? Certainly this appears to be a big issue for staff, based on the posts here.

Which kinda gets me onto the point about what this costs the airline. The airline has said a person (yes, a specific person) can use the lounge if they give the airline money to fly. If a different person pays money and turns up to use the "entitlement" of person 1, what has the airline lost. They've got the money. The entitled person isn't flying since they clearly don't have the card. So one person has given over money and are using the entitlements of one person.
What has the airline lost?
