As per airlineroute
Philippine Airlines from 02DEC15 is launching new service to Australia and New Zealand, with 4 weekly Manila – Cairns – Auckland operation. This flight will be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft.
Planned operational schedule as follow.
PR218 MNL2345 – 0800+1CNS0900+1 – 1600+1AKL 320 x256
PR219 AKL1830 – 2230CNS2330 – 0330+1MNL 320 x367
Thanks for that. Pleasantly surprised that CNS-AKL is not a redeye.
Not just the MNL-CNS-MNL legs......
Operated by A320. Cairns does make a very central midpoint between MNL & AKL.
Assume PAL will have 5th freedom rights on CNS-AKL, otherwise can't see it viable.
MNL-HKG-AKL on CX would be my preferred route if you put price aside.
I don't see myself ever taking those flights...
PR have tried these tag flights before with the AU market using the A320 aircraft.
The PER-DRW-MNL route did not last very long at all from memory.
I had always thought trans tasman was open skies but I did read elsewhere that PR has rights for CNS-AKL and vv.
MNL-DRW-BNE still exists today so tag flights aren’t always bound to fail. Good on PR for experimenting anyway.
Current prices on CNS-MNL return is currently around $1,500 though. I assume that will eventually go down to more realistic levels.
