Philippine Airlines Now Bookable With Qantas Points

If only they had of released this a couple of weeks earlier šŸ˜” I fly MNL to TAG return in 10 days with Philippine Airlines (PAL Express - I think). Had a look on the App when the partnership was announced, my flights were there 😭 Not worth cancelling and rebooking.

And also available to fly to YVR and YYZ direct from MNL, which poses as a great alternative to Cathay Pacific.
Indeed we just suffered the PER - YVR route on CX and the 13 hours in PE after the 9 hours PER - HKG. If we ever do that trip again, we will use that route and certainly find the money or the points for J seats.

Philippine Airlines on J would definitely better than CX E/R/W.
I hope PR J would be available for redemption soon.
Checked all weekend and nothing.

Just remember though that PR still has a lot of aircraft with absolutely woeful J seats

In the widebodies, six of the 10 A333s (AFAIK) have the poor J configuration, but PR seems to make an effort NOT to send these to SYD or MEL.

The B773ERs are 2-2-2 in J but with a very good pitch, which means the monitor is far away from the seated passenger.

In the narrowbodies, some of the A321s have lie flat seats. These normally operate MNL-BNE and MNL-PER.

I flew MNL-BNE recently on QF and it was great (apart from the 24h rescheduling delay which I made good use of visiting a pal in Manila)
Are you referring to impending narrow-bodies?

Yep - Qantas will use A321XLRs with domestic-style recliner seats and no seatback IFE from October on BNE-MNL.

I see a OneWorld join date of 2027. Any mention of interim benefits I wonder.

For my regular trips BNE-MNL I prefer the PR service. The afternoon PR arrival is better than the QF late evening.

On the overnight return the QF departure at 9:45pm is much better than PR 00:05 BUT a QF Upgrade bid of $1,000 went nowhere whereas I have always gotten a PR Upgrade when asking at Check-in for P40,000 currently A$920

No one has mentioned the likelihood that PR can align and manage this integration. If you, like me and many others have ever had to deal with PR customer service you know they have challenges. My personal experience in the past month of travels

BNE-MNL-BNE on PR needed to change an internal leg of the booking. So difficult and excessively repriced. Gave up, got a refund and booked a whole new fare cheaper on QF.

IAO-CRK PR changed the routing, instead of direct service they replaced it with IAO-CEB-MNL. Destination two hours apart. Cancelled and booked a direct service on SunlightAIr

CEB-IAO points booking which 4,500 miles plus A$20. They asked USD30 to get the miles refunded.

I think fundamentally they do things that make sense to them internally so I don't know how the management team will go when they are being asked to meet an external standard.

I do trust them for the direct BNE-MNL-BNE route and learned my lesson about any complications.

Not a PR stunt and your wish has been PRealised:
Great news. I have some 5J and PR flights on an upcoming trip, I usually choose 5J but if SCs become part of the equation in the future, will be willing to pay more for PR if it means lounges.
One problem is, PR is all at MNL T1/2 and majority of other partners are T3. Hopefully something will be done about the dungeons at T3 as a result of this tie in.
