Did find a power point for power.
Least get 3G
Saw Shane Watson do an interview.

last time I checked, MEL, SYD* and BNE have no free wifi.
Australia does not have TSA (and lounges are rarely ever before security anyway, the VA lounge in MEL is an exception)
Power in public areas is not common in Australia

As for fast food, i'd rather not when in an airport (typically there's far better/tastier options).

Europcar has a desk right there with Hertz and Avis in the VA terminal (and at the bottom of the escalator in the QF terminal).

*(SYD has very poor free wifi for a very short period only)

Where is hungry jacks... And Eurocar?

Yeah, cove, time you got off your 3 letters and fixed this.

Think TB in LAX stole the idea from Perth.....just wanted to enter lounge with suitcase...while waiting for family to arrive....not possible here.

TBIT and the ReLAX lounge had the idea as there was at that time no space after security to build a lounge.

landside lounges are *rare* in the Airport world, and it's definitely preferred to be post-security for travellers (arrivals lounges exist for a reason, and any regular lounge used for arrivals is not generally the main purpose of said lounge).

Since when has Australian airports had TSA?
Lounges after security, isn't that the norm for most Australian domestic major airports?

Mel, Syd and Adel have free Wifi
Also Mel and Adel have lounge access before TSA
Found Eurocar and the free internet hub ;)
Easy to say TSA.
I'm sure LAX had a couple before TSA.
Thought Perth would have miner partner lounge..... But still stuck in DOME world over here

Easy to say TSA.

Maybe easy to say but except for the USA you're absolutely dead wrong. Besides, associating a largely bigoted, spineless and gutless motley crew like the TSA to most other security agencies around the world is insulting.

MEL only have the VA domestic lounge prior to security screening (and domestic lounges hardly count because the public can freely pass in and out of the sterile area where most of the lounges are situated).

Certainly there are no international lounges prior to security screening in MEL.

There are no lounges prior to security screening in SYD either - both domestic and international.

Mel, Sydney both have lounges before TSA... I'm sure LAX had a couple before TSA.

AFAIK there are NO lounges before security internationally. The only lounge that is pre-security is the VA lounge in Melbourne. In SYD you still need to go through security to access the lounge.

Actually they don't as there is no such thing as TSA in Australia.

With reference to SYD and MEL, not all lounges are before security as other lounges are past security not before.

MEL have limited free, like SYD. ADL is provided by Internode/iiNet and is web and email only (anything else, you pay unless you're an Internode subscriber, and then you have full access).

It's not easy to say TSA. As anat0l says, there's just no comparison to our security.

There is *no* lounge except VA landside. The ADL lounge is most definitely after security (and, if in transit in ADL on an international flight, you can't leave the transit area to go to the Qantas club either).

LAX has one lounge, ReLax, upstairs in TBIT near the food outlets. All others are very much so past the *real* TSA.

Perth has Qantas Club and Virgin Lounge. The Alliance lounge moved to the regional terminal AFAIK (it was at the bottom of the escalators in the VA terminal, also after security).

No free Wi-Fi
Becoming rare to not have free Wi-Fi, but certainly not yet universal

No access to lounges before TSA check.
Ignoring the no TSA thing, it makes more sense to have the lounges airside, since most people who use them are travelling on an onward flight, and thus easy access to the gates would be more important than easy access on arrival.

Did find a power point for power.
I've only come across a couple of airports in my travels which actually have powerpoints for travelers without lounge access. Most of the time the powerpoints are there for the cleaners, the fact you can also plug a laptop into them is a bonus.

Least get 3G
I have had no problems with my 3G devices at PER.

Where is hungry jacks?
Didn't know HJ was a pre-req for a decent airport...

Perth is hardly a special airport, but it's a very long way away from the worst in the 1st world either (my personal vote on this goes to LAX)...

Depends which terminal at LAX. T4 is OK (lots and lots of power points but no free wifi in the general terminal), TBIT is now a nice place to be, before or after security.

T3, yes. The place needs to be razed and started again (or at least gutted). At least i'll never need to set foot in there again with the move to TBIT for VA :)

So has Cove been working to fix these problems? :p

Isn't PER undergoing a major redevelopment right now?

As for LAX, I came into the US via LAX via the TBIT in 2009 & it was amazing to see the difference between then & earlier this year. Hopefully they'll move on to some of the other terminals once TBIT is 100% completed.

I presume you are talking about T3/T4 here (aka, the old domestic side)

1) Free Wi-Fi in the QF terminal, easily accessed by airside walkway. If in VA, there are complimentary internet kiosks (look for the Europcar sign) upstairs near the A330 gates and I believe also downstairs near baggage claim.

2) As mentioned, most airports have lounges after security check.

Hungry Jacks will be opening soonish (not sure exactly when) where firefly used to be in T4 (Qantas). Another fast food option in Red Rooster has been open for quite some time in T3 (VA). Both post-security.

Reference to Dome would indicate sitting at the T3 -Virgin terminal.

Gee I was concerned I may not get on a plane leaving Perth due to the passionate responses to my thread..... Then the best news from last post that red roster exists.... have the coupons for free food for them. Will be using them. Saw Hudson coffee... Is red down stairs after TSA?
