OK, what's going on in PER next week (25/09 through 29/09)?

I'm trying to book a quick SYD-PER/return (over on Tue 26th back on Wed 27th) but I cannot find a seat for the return.

For example, DJ is full on Weds through Fri (27th-29th) next week. Not a single seat available. QF has seats but they are scarce and very expensive, e.g. J only direct to SYD for $1,500 or SuperSaver via BNE for $1,150.

Is there a mass exodous from PER next week for some reason?

I have 2 x UC's I want to use before they expire, preferable for the return leg, but it's looking unlikely. :(

Hmm, now lets see. Which team is the Sydney Swans hosting for a finals match next weekend? Perhaps that has something to do with it?

Thanks NM.

Bugger. You can see that I have no clue what's going on with the AFL (or NRL for that matter).

I did see one Fully Flexible fare for the return: Thu 28/09 on QF566. Does anyone know if there are upgrade seats available on this flight? I'll pay the $872.00 only if I can use my UC's and get into J. I'd hate to pay full Y and be seated amongst rioting football fans. Especially if their side lost.

EDIT: Just re-read your msg. They'll be on their way TO the game, not coming from it.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm on one heading back Wednesday Night, I'll make a post if there's an obvious gathering of star trek fans (or similar).

you still have UC's left?
Yes, I still have 2! One expires in Dec and the other in Jan. I had a third but used it on a MEL-SYD earlier this year. It hasn't been easy to use them, and I'm flying DJ mostly these days so there hasn't been heaps of opportunity.

Peter,

Up until a 1 pt upset result in PER in the first week of the finals, it looked like at least one WA based AFL team had a mortgage on making the AFL Grand Final on September 30th.

So much so that Qantas have scheduled additional flights as well as $185 one-way back fill deals MEL-PER-MEL. ( There are still two WA teams in it & these deals are still available, terrible times though)

Currently, If book to fly to MEL-PER on 27/28/29 September and return PER-MEL on 2/3 October you can do it for $374. The normal red e-deal cost is ~$545.

There are some reasonably timed flights on Friday night ex MEL. They are not all like 02:20 Melbourne 04:35 Perth QF1219 :)

I still have 2 left - 1 will expire soon. A bit hard to use on this side of the ditch and my travel to Oz has dropped right away this year. My next upgradeable QF flight (next week) requires 3 UCs

Try getting back from Perth in the round about way, via Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne.
Quite a number of Vics last week flew Melb-SYN-Per for 1/2 the cost QF wanted on direct flight if there were seats left.

Thanks Ross. I'll check again tonight and have a look at returning via MEL. Although it does make it a long way home.

I did check Greyhound's timetables just in case it ended up being a quicker journey at much less cost :D

Unfortunately they don't do that route (only PER - DRW)

Can anyone tell me if QF566 on Thu 28/09 has any upgrade seats available? :?:

Nope not at the moment. May be a small chance of an on-departure upgrade:

I would wait until this weekend's matches are completed as there is strong possibility that it will be a Sydney-Adelaide grand final and you may find a lot of West Coast/Fremantle fans cancelling their flights and selling their grand final tickets on e-bay.

I couldn't wait - had to confirm the trip. Paid full economy, although the e-ticket shows it as "H" class, whatever that is. It's not like you can select these things when you book a ticket. :(

cheeky SQ for those who are having trouble getting to MEL ,or SYD next week a mate who's a TVL agent in PER sent me this...if yr after some points on Star Aliance this is an opportunity if you have the time

To Travel Manager

Can't get your client's a domestic flight to get to the AFL finals in ADL or SYD this weekend or the Grand Final in MEL the following weekend?

Then how about via Singapore and do some duty free shopping on the way!!!

We've put together a special fare to help our WA footy supporters travel over East to their support AFL teams and hopefully bring back the CUP!!!

One way to SYD/ADL or MEL is about nett just under 700 so with taxes, fines etc its probobly 900 one way
interesting for the GF with is only offered as a one way fare.

I did also hear Sky west will put on a charter if a PER team makes the final for about 800 rtn on a F100 jet which will operate direct to MEL but has to stop in ADL for a rest on the way home due to range issues.
Alternative options to SYD are to travel over BNE
