PER-SIN to return from June.

Back before QF dis-continued the PER-SIN A330s, I suspect QF was also perplexed that I was flying BA SIN-SYD and the BA codeshare SYD-PER. At the time, crediting to AA the BA flights in discount Y (V class which credited 100% EQM/EQP to AA with a lot more mileage) were about the same price as the QF flex tickets SIN-PER. As well the exSIN T class (Y+) tickets offered a reasonable chance at an OPup and provided even better credit to AA.

Currently ticketing exCMB CX prices are competitive enough that QF exSIN is no longer that attractive. Though the UL code shares (on QF/MH) are cheap enough if I wanted the shorter travel times.

MH Business Promo fares are currently about $2131 CMB-PER return in J.
Not bad value.
 
The MH fare (posted above) is about $au450 less than the Cathay I class fare CMB-PER-CMB which is normally available.
The Cathay V class shows at a bit less than $au1100, which while longer flights than MH or the UL+codeshares is a few dollars less.
It will be interesting to see what the UL fares will be when the CMB-MEL flights actually start...

I would be quite happy flying UL, flown quite a few times from Sin - LHR via CMB, in J ,it's the price from Per that kills it, what would a J price be using other one world carriers also flying UL?

What have loads been like on this flight since it resumed?

I was on QF71/72 in early July...I'd say about 3/4 full both directions, but my daughter was on QF72 two weeks ago and on check-in she was asked if she could fly the next day as the flight was overbooked!

I flew to SIN yesterday & looked to be full, I couldn't see any spare seats at all but I was up the rear end.

They did run out of meals though, I was row 26 & we were the last row to get a meal. Felt a bit guilty eating mine but they didn't say anything until they passed us. The CSM offered them 5k in points as compensation after they investigated other avenues such as were there any spare J class meals. The CSM or Hostess was ever so apologetic & repeatedly returned to those affected to see what else she could do.

Well thats a terrible oversight, not good enough at all. I would want more than 5000 points, I think at least 8000 is in order, i.e. enough for a flight.

Assuming rows 27, 28 and 29 were full, that is 18 meals short or 11.5% of Y. That is pretty poor, but we are talking about a PER service here, where QF think that we should be happy just to have any QFi services and meals are therefore optional.
 
Keen to know how JQi numbers have changed.

I would venture that the QF flights (but allow for a better time schedule) have rather
fewer vacant seats. Though award seats are almost all on 3K.
Based on that I would suggest this is the basis for QF going with daily flights.
And likely a good reason to book several MONTHs in advance.

What about 3k136 Per-Sin at 7.35am? I've been on that twice in the last 6 weeks and almost full on both occassions

3K 136 was not listed on the EF displays I had returned. Only flies on Wednesdays.

I was scheduled to fly 3K on the evening direct service SIN-PER this week. On presenting for check-in close to two hours before departure I was told they weren't checking all passengers in at that point due to some weight and balance issues. I was told to return at 4.50pm, one hour prior to departure. This was a massive inconvenience for me as (a) I had planned to go to Terminal 3 and get my e-passport and (b) I had duty free to get which, due to the Australian government's protectionist policy on behalf of domestic duty free providers, had to be ordered no less than 90 minutes before departure. I offered to be transferred to the QF flight but that wasn't happening at that point.

I returned just prior to 5.05pm given check-in closes 45 minutes prior and I had been accommodated on QF72 at 6.50pm.

The flight was full in J and almost chockers in Y. Service was good but the flight attendants seemed like they could have used another couple pairs of hands. It was two hours after take-off before they started the hot drink service. An English lady behind me complained politely to the FAs that service was far too slow. The meal service was done entirely from the front with two FA on two trolleys, rather than a trolley at the front of Y and another halfway back. One trolley had the drinks and the other the meal. The meals were presented unlike anything I've seen on QF before (although, courtesy of living in Perth, it's been a long time since I've flown QF Y). The meal is presented in a large container (not a box and larger than the old domestic containers) that fits neatly into a plastic tray. The FAs sit a bread roll on the top and that's it. There's no salad or chocolate or anything else. It actually comes across as quite sparse. Alcoholic spirits are served from bottles, rather than the miniatures that were once given and given the time it takes to serve the cabin it's, pardon the pun, a long time between drinks. The snack or dessert service was mini chocolates or fresh whole fruit.

Cabin baggage was huge. The bins were full to the brim. Priority boarding was offered.

I asked an FA if he crewed the route regularly and he said yes and he that he used to do the original service before it was canned. His wife also flew that route often for business. He he was always very well patronised. When I mentioned that the CEO said it was canned because of low numbers he nodded and rolled his eyes. He said that it's his understanding Qantas is adding an extra flight in July or August although he wasn't sure if it was permanent. It would leave Perth later with a circa 10pm arrival into Singapore which I thought was an odd time.
 
737 too small for the 5hr+ flight too crammed, they are getting the numbers now so why not a better plane?
