PER - SIN - HKT on QF and AirAsia

Hi all,
I am planning to travel to coughet to finally do my diving ticket in late June. I plan to travel PER-SIN-PER using points on QF and use AirAsia for the SIN-HKT-SIN part of the trip ($140 return, pretty good).
I assume I'll have to clear immigration and grab my luggage when I arrive in SIN, then "leave" SIN again to check into my AirAsia flight (with the opposite on the way home)? Has anyone done this connection? Seems like a cheap way to get to coughet, once I have obtained my dive ticket I plan to spend some days on a beach with those drinks with the little umbrellas in them so looking at 2 weeks all up.

You will have to collect bags and recheck them in, going through customs etc, at least they are both in Terminal 1.
