That's what i mistook that feature for at first as well before looking again more closely to see its some sort of garden thing...

You wouldn't exactly mistake it for Charle de Gaulle's terminals would you.... But nothing in WA would roughly be mistaken for Paris or anywhere too large and sophistocated... But its a pier and at least its connected up to the International Terminal so lets hope that adds some more options for more flights out even if Qantas has forgotten WA exists...

So how many people did show up roughly? And were the refreshments worth turning up for???

So did anyone get pics?

Yes, yes I did. I'm providing this guest link for the benefit of AFF readers only - as I'm holding these photos as private until the opening day of the terminal. Some descriptive notes so you can see what I was seeing, including pointers for some easter eggs that'll give some of you a chuckle.

Despite them saying no photos whilst in the terminal - I managed to snap off a few sneakies. Mind you, that was nothing compared to some guy with a video camera who recorded most of his movements through terminal and 'the tunnels' to the planes.

200+ trial participants were involved. About 8-10 'flights' in total.

Refreshments included fresh barista tea/coffee and muffins/cakes from Hudson's Coffee who are in the airside area, fruit/juces/water in the staging tent, and Relay with water/fruit juice and musili bars. Lunch consisted of several choices of fresh sandwiches or wraps with juices and water.

One lucky attendee scored a return J fare to KUL with cash/accom on MH, a couple of others scored some Y on MH, and then there's now a 1 in 4 chance for a return flight to either Esperance or Exmouth on the opening day of the terminal on board XR.

Was my understanding that there was going to be some sort of lounge for Alliance and Skywest.
You are correct, there is space provisioned for 4 airline lounges in the new T2. However they are unlikely to be complete before the opening in a couple of weeks. My understanding is that Alliance certainly will, and Skywest (who recently had nothing) will institute some sort of business lounge.

Where? Having looked at all the maps I have access to, and pacing around the place during the trial - there's simply nowhere within the current structure for any lounges. They may use the landscaped area they've got some paths, blackboys and water wise plants in the future to construct lounges there - but that's the only possible place for them.

There's no hoardings suggesting anything is under construction of the size necessary for a lounge.

Thanks for the pics.:)

Looks modern and "utilitarian" is the word that comes to mind. Or basic. Either.

I like the selection of airlines at the check-in desks!

They are behind the 'Relay' Newsagent store, in the departure lounge directly behind check-in. Although they have only just started to be fitted out, as far as lounges go, they're pretty big for regional airlines!
I suspect they blocked that area off during the trial due its incomplete nature. But that terminal becomes my new home come Saturday  so pop in and say hello if your in the area!

I'm standing in Terminal 2 now, what a mess. It's completely overcrowded with standing room only. Very underwhelming.

Seriously, how did they manage to underestimate the volume of passengers transiting the terminal? I would hate to see it when there is a delayed flight or two...

I was also there this morning for a 0630 hrs flight. The checkin area is nice and big, my first thoughts were this isn't bad, apart from having to park miles away!

Then got through security to be standing in a small area, no seats and announcements of delayed flights due Tarmac congestion one after the other. Not very inspiring to be having to come here every week !
