[PER, Feb 16] Volunteers needed for Terminal 2 (T2) Advanced Trial

Ha ha ha very true. I wonder if volunteering to queue is just sick.

I better bring all my FF cards, I don't know what airline they will put me on and the last thing I want to do is queue. I just want lounge time :p

How does that compare to volunteering to BE sick (or injured) like an Emergency Services airport exercise?

Personally, I would want no part of either..

So, a commercial operation is looking for volunteers to hand over four hours of their own time (refreshments provided!) to decide whether their planning folks got it right? As if!

Its not really that uncommon for this to happen.

I wonder if they provide free parking, since there's currently no public transport to that side of the airport...

I'm actually surprised some frequent flyer types would poo-poo such an opportunity.

Was on the trial, and a valuable expeirence. There are no doubt a lot of things that people who spend 1-3yrs working on a project won't find, that those who travel through airports frequently will.

I ended up filing around two (handwritten) pages of feedback, identifying various weak points or issues with the terminal, signage and other matters that need to be addressed. The more people with a clue who participate in these trials, the more chance they have to get things right - and hopefully not make the same mistakes in future.

Sounds like you made some good points.

I wonder if they will change anything anyway or was it more just a test every thing out type thing.

Was my understanding that there was going to be some sort of lounge for Alliance and Skywest.

You are correct, there is space provisioned for 4 airline lounges in the new T2. However they are unlikely to be complete before the opening in a couple of weeks. My understanding is that Alliance certainly will, and Skywest (who recently had nothing) will institute some sort of business lounge.

No lounges in T2 am I correct.

It'll be interesting with Skywest being rebranded as Virgin Australia (pending approval) if PER will get two domestic VA lounges (one in T2, the other in the new VA terminal pier).

Sydney Morning Herald said:
Virgin plans to rebrand Skywest’s fleet of 28 planes and will keep Skywest’s staff, management team and airline operating certificate, a spokeswoman said.

As I understand there will be a connecting indoor walkway between the two terminals, which makes sense given VA will be the major tenant of the new T2 as well after the rebrand.

So did anyone get pics?

I can't post links, but if you search for 'Perth Airport Spotters' on Facebook, some of the guys from Jetspotter got some good pics!

Edit: Just took these from "A.J.H Aviation Photography" on Facebook

I fly Skywest every week, sometimes twice a week and have got to know the staff quite well. One checkin staffer told me last week they will remain Skywest branded for approx 12 months and then possibly rebrand to VA.
The only issue with terminal 2 is they have to cross the international runway to get to the domestic runway which could pose some problems on busy slots.

What is this distinction between runways?

There are two runways that cross each other. International flights use both. Domestic use both. As far as I can see the preference for one over the other is which one is closest to rhe terminal you are using.

Thanks for the photos, the big rusty skip-bin out the front looks terrible!
