PE Seating on 777

Leg room - see post #6 herein and its links for 777.

There's even less leg room in row 1 on the NZ registered (ZK-) VA 738's.

I usually prefer row 1 because no one reclines into you but got to agree on the VA Trans Tasman. My legs/knees wanted a good stretch after that flight but hubby said "it was fine" but Im always nervous when a spouse, male or female, says "its fine".

There has to be somebody...... I disagree with everyone. I prefer row 14. I have been in 10, 11 and 12 and I still prefer 14. In fact, if I am paying for it I prefer 14 than J. For whatever reason I find the recline perfect in 14 for my size and physique. I am 183cm.

ETA: Of course, I'm keeping fingers crossed that reward seats will come up and we can snaffle upgrades for the flight, and then the above will all be a moot point :)

Well, this HAS just become a moot point - checked this morning and there seems to have been J seat availability released overnight or this morning on a number of flights, in February and March at least - only 2 seats available for our LAX-SYD flight in March, so hopped straight on the phone to Velocity and upgraded. So now it's J all the way for our trip - Woohoo!! :D

My dilemma of whether to chose row 10 or row 11 has been resolved, managed to upgrade to business class this morning:)

Looks like we were both in luck this morning :)

Just wondering how you both went about this? I checked this morning and VA website is showing reward availability, thought I hit the jackpot so I called the WP line to be told that there isn't any reward seats at all. I can understand if there isn't any upgrades available but she insisted there isn't a single reward seat showing on the web despite what I can see on mine?!?

Firstly, if for your flights there are no reward seats then there are also no upgrades available, they both come out of the same "bucket".

At the time I simply checked the flights I had booked and when I saw that there were business reward seats available I called up and requested the upgrade from PE to business.

What flight / date was this?

As a tip, if looking to upgrade to Business, first ensure there are sufficient business awards on your flight. Then just call and ask for the upgrade - avoid reference to "award seats" even if they tell you there are no upgrades available. At that point I'd simply mention that you could/can see Z class online for that flight - see how it goes from there.

Same here. I did this on two separate occasions - firstly for the SYD-LAX flight at the time of booking, I checked for reward seats AND rang up and checked and they said there was "plenty" of availability for that flight, so I rang back straight away after booking and got the upgrades. They confirmed at that time there was no upgrade availability for the return LAX-SYD sector.

As per the (as always!) helpful advice on this forum, I kept checking every day for business reward seats on that date - about two weeks later, two seats were showing as available so I phoned the Platinum line and was able to upgrade both of us without any issues.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I have been checking most days and reward availability has been sold out for weeks so when I saw some available this morning I jumped on the phone. Just had another look and it's only any seat award availability so I'm guessing it's a different fare bucket. Flight I'm looking for is VA 30 on 20/10/14. I figure it's probably to late to get an upgrade but no harm in trying.

Pretty certain it has to be Reward Seats, not Any Seats.

The Any Seats are essentially paying for a regular fare with points.

Looking at ExpertFlyer, it's indicating 17 unoccupied seats for that flight. You may well be in luck closer to the date of departure.....keep on regularly checking for award seat availability being released!

Big bump here, but with the refurbished Y+ on VA 777s, what's the opinion on seating?

Given 16D outbound and 15D inbound when booking, any ideas?

That curtain angle looks very annoying - especially by hour 14!

However, I would avoid 15D (which I was seated in) as due to the diagonal angle of the cabin, the curtain separating Business and Premium Economy Class intrudes on your personal space and flicks you each time a cabin crew member moves between cabins.
