Passport Renewal / Application - Time Taken?

MEL in May:

• 14th - lodged standard renewal at post office
• 20th - dispatched
• 22nd - received

I used the priority (5 business day) processing for my recent passport renewal in June. Lodged on a Wednesday, dispatched on a Friday and passport delivered to my address the following Wednesday. So, 1-week turnaround time in total including delivery time.

7 weeks in advance of my trip I lodged a standard passport renewal at a South Australian country Post office on Saturday 4th July. I wrote a note on my calendar to check for it around early August. Passport arrived Wednesday 8th July. I couldnt believe how quick it was! Even express post to our country area takes longer than that.

Applied to renew my passport today.
Next flight 12 August. Now we'll see how long it takes.

I checked the website. Lodged 29 June at the local suburban post office.
Received by the passport office on 06 July.
Since then crickets.

Says it is expected 03 August.

I have to go to the work office next week. May have to visit the passport office.

Applied at BNE GPO on Mon, 13 July.
No updates on the tracker until Fri, 17 July when it said the application was approved and would be printed.
Got an email an hour ago to say it was printed and ready to pick up from the passport office.

As an aside, when I lodged the application last week, the temporary passport office was in the GPO.
Now it's in a different spot in Queen St.

I use the cover from an old passport, then store them all in a QF amenity kit. I also have a Kiki K passport wallet which I love, but it doesn't fit the 7 passports we carry.

Applied for renewal same day as my spouse, same post office, photos taken by the same person at the same time.

Application 1 -- lodged July 21st, Received 27th, Approved & sent 28th.
Application 2 -- lodged July 21st, Received 27th, ... nothing since.

Looks like they might be auto-approving some application and randomly pushing other to a longer process?

Yes - mine was a similar story, though being in WA will always add a day or two, but I received an email yesterday stating it would be here in the next few days.
