Appears was a religious issue with washing.

Imagine being forced to be seated alongside them for some hours if the odour was as strong as indicated.

Ouch. Wow. They must have really stunk. Gnasty.

Luckily, if the smell is really really bad and really really strong, the phenomenon of olfactory fatigue can set in, and one will not notice the smell as much as would typically be the case.

Renato

"I have to calm down? I have eight children at home and there's a religious reason for some reason that they're kicking me off the plane," Adler replied. "We don't have odor, nobody here has odor."

Its very true that this can happen to a person, there is no way they can tell if they have stinked so bad for so long. I experienced it myself. :)

after a 7 day or so exercise in NT, during summer, no showers, no change of clothes about 40 of us boarded a Caribou for the flight back to Darwin. The old sergeant who wasnt on the exercise kept saying that someone has coughped themselves and we all sniffing ourselves and each other, and saying we cant smell a thing. Upon having a shower back at base, i go to pick up my uniform I had left on the floor up and almost vomited. It was as bad as the worst thing I had ever smelt. Everyones now laughing their head off because every single one of us realised we all smelt as bad.

I remember one flight when I was trapped in a window seat next to Mr and Mrs 'extra large'. Mrs had really bad body odour and I begged the FA to move me. Thank goodness there was a spare seat further back. I would never have coped on the 5 hour flight being squashed and holding my breath!

I can imagine after even one day Florida you'd stink and then getting in a confined space without deodorant....wow.

I even carry a t-shirt in my lap top bag so after a day trip to anywhere I can wash as best I can and put it on at the airport for the benefit of my fellow travelers. (and feel clean myself)

How does one go about this without totally embarrassing people? Or is it that bad that you cease to worry about that?

I can relate to that.We did a 6 day hike Katoomba to Jenolan Caves and back in the mid 60s.Rained the whole time so we didn't change.Caught the train back to Sydney from Katoomba and literally had the whole carriage to ourselves.Couldn't work it out until later after a shower and smelling our clothes.
Never forget coming back as had to cross the Cox's river after 5 days of rain. They have a swing bridge across it now-wimps!

While looking back I came across this blog.A fellow named after a former AFF moderator but good info for walking around the bush near Sydney.

Showering daily is one of my creature comforts. I no longer participate in anything that doesn't provide for a daily hot shower. That's just me, maybe.

On a sub continent flight a few years ago Mr and Master P experienced difficulties with a passenger. They’d purchased duty free men’s fragrance for the other Master and set about opening it and spraying it around.
