BBC News - Paris Air Show: More next-generation planes ordered

Paris Air Show: More next-generation planes ordered
The second day of the Paris Air Show has seen brisk trade, with further competition between the two biggest aircraft makers Airbus and Boeing.
An order by Malaysia's low-cost airline AirAsia for 200 of Airbus' new upgraded A320neo planes, potentially worth $18bn (£11.1bn), is expected this week.
But its US rival has already received several orders for its new, lengthened 747-8 jumbo.......

  • JetBlue Airways ordered 40 A320neos, US jet-leasing firm CIT Aerospace agreed to buy 50 and Taiwan's TransAsia Airways ordered six, worth $600m.
  • Low-cost Nordic carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle placed an order for 15 Boeing 737-800s, worth $1.2bn, and Aeroflot ordered eight 777 planes from Boeing in a deal worth more than $2bn.
  • Airbus said Indonesia airline Garuda bought 25 A320 aircraft. Scandinavia's SAS Airlines, Gecas leasing company, Saudi Arabian Airlines and others also placed orders.
  • Canada's Bombardier and Brazil's Embraer also had several orders in another successful day.

IndiGo firmed their commitment for 180 A320 Airbus aircraft including 150 Neos, Republic Airways Holdings, the parent company of US-based Frontier Airlines, signed an MoU for 40 of the new aircraft plus a similar number of A319neos. ALAFCO, the Kuwait-based Aviation Lease and Finance Company, also signed an MoU for 30 A320neos. There were rumours that Qatar Airways plans to order 50 A320neos and five A380s. Boeing also announced a deal with Russia's UTair Aviation for the supply of 40 next-generation 737s.

Airbus wins record $15.6bn order at Paris Air Show - Telegraph

Looks like Airbus are the big, big winners here.

I think ultimately the Dreamliner will be a big seller, but since it is new technology, nobody seems to want to over-commit.

It would be nice to know who's ordered the 15 748s.

Also, "next generation" do they mean - current series (737/738/739) or beyond?

How big is indigo's current fleet - that's a huge order!

Biggest Plane deal in History

Airbus has got an order from AirAsia for 200 of their A320neo planes. This is the biggest order in Airplane history.
Qantas be afraid, very afraid!!

Biggest order in airplane (sic) history? Maybe commercial aviation but I am sure there are air forces around world who have purchased larger amounts of planes in one order.

That's an impressive amount of aeroplanes to order - biggest in history or not. I dare say, more great news for leisure travellers looking for cheap fares (and those looking for cheaper fares on established carriers!).

Pretty sure it was the largest, by number, order for Airbus.

It's a lot of neo's!

How the Record AirAsia NEO Deal Got Done

Another interesting article from Paris. Note that there were two other deals with higher $$$$ value than the airbus/AirAsia deal.

Things With Wings said:
Airbus has now secured 1,029 orders for the A320NEO (new engine option) airliner. At Le Bourget, so far, the aircraft maker has booked 667 commitments, and more could still emerge.

But the standout deal was AirAsia's purchase of 200 NEOs, powered by CFM International Leap-1XAs. It is the largest single order for Airbus by aircraft numbers (two other deals have had higher dollar values than the $18.2 billion AirAsia contract).

With 200 neo's, what sort of destinations are they looking at flying to? Anyone know?

Can they reach the Australian East Coast for example, what about the Middle East?
